**Title: Research Intern - Full Time**

**Reports To: Manager of Research**

**TERM: 12 Weeks / Summer 2024**

**RATE: $21.30 per hour**

**LOCATION: On site or remote working**

It is possible to work remotely for the duration of this position.

Competition closes on May 15, 2024, at 5 p.m. (Atlantic Time).

**_Purpose of Position_**

The Research Intern will work closely with the Oral Historian and other research team members in support of the Museum’s oral history and exhibit programs. The Research Intern’s responsibilities include preparing oral history entries for the Museum’s online database, contributing research towards an oral-history-based video, and providing support for the development of a temporary exhibition on food and immigration. Tasks may include but are not limited to: working with oral history interviews to code content using qualitative software; writing biographies of interview participants; editing clip transcripts and reviewing and updating full transcripts; updating internal database fields for oral history interviews; providing research support for exhibition and research projects; researching, and writing short reports and short texts; and other tasks as assigned.
- Experience, Skills and Qualifications - Required_
- Master’s degree (in progress or obtained within the last year) in History, Public History, Immigration studies, Anthropology, or related;
- Abilities in locating, evaluating, and synthesizing large amounts of information from diverse sources;
- Experience working with digital assets including audio, audio-visual, and still image files;
- Good editing and writing skills;
- Strong attention to detail and good organizational skills, especially in dealing with diverse source material;
- Ability to engage with content that encompasses diverse cultures, identities, and experiences.
- Ability to work with difficult or challenging content;
- Ability to exercise discretion regarding privacy issues associated with interview content;
- Ability to communicate well, and in a tactful and professional manner;
- Ability to take direction, but also to work on own initiative;
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Experience, Skills and Qualifications - Desired_
- Fluent in French and English, spoken and written;
- Knowledge of Canadian immigration history.
- Experience conducting, transcribing, coding, cataloging, analyzing and/or using oral history interviews.
- Knowledge of food and immigration history, and/or settlement sector in Canada.
