Description:
The Clinical Safety Leader (CSL) is a professional position reporting to the Manager, Clinical Quality & Patient Safety, Central Zone. The primary role of the CSL is to provide support to clinical Medical leaders and clinical Operations leaders within Alberta Health Services for Quality Assurance Committee (QAC) activity. The QAC process is the AHS approved mechanism to identify healthcare systems deficiencies and create recommendations to improve patient safety following investigation into adverse patient events that resulted in severe patient harm or death. The CSLs utilize their in-depth clinical backgrounds and experience and their expert patient safety knowledge to independently lead complex interdisciplinary investigations into patient death or cases of serious harm. The CSLs independently review reports submitted to the Reporting Learning System from front-line patient care providers to identify trends in hazards, close calls and adverse events and work with local areas to address identified systems issues. Note: This is a P4-2 position.

**Required Qualifications**:
Baccalaureate degree in a clinical area (Nursing or Allied Health discipline).
**Additional Required Qualifications**:
A minimum of five years progressive experience in a health-related discipline preferred in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. Specialized expertise in patient safety coupled with an appropriate license or other recognized designation. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Ability to independently and expertly manage complex health system safety issues including those that result in patient death and serious harm. Experience implementing, integrating, and evaluating system-wide initiatives. In-depth understanding of clinical care, health care systems, quality improvement and performance measurement methodology. Specific skills include project management; change management; well-developed communication and interview skills; system analysis skills with ability to perform detailed analysis while maintaining an organizational focus; presentation/education experience; organizational skills; critical thinking; and ability to read and understand healthcare literature.
