The Senior Lead Hand - Assembly collaborates closely with the Assembly Supervisor to ensure the department operates smoothly and efficiently, meeting production schedules and demands. They exemplify a "right the first time" mindset, providing leadership and guidance to Lead Hands and Assembly Workers. Additionally, they are responsible for identifying and solving any problems that may arise during the assembly process. By adhering to detailed drawings, procedures, and maintaining a safe work environment, they play a crucial role in ensuring a streamlined and consistent manufacturing process that adds value to both the customer and the company.

Supervises: Assembly Lead Hands and Assembly Workers

Key Responsibility Areas:
**Leadership**:

- Performs the role of the Supervisor in their absence, making decisions, answering questions and providing knowledgeable guidance as required.
- Gives instructions to Assembly Leads and Workers.
- Oversees and ensures compliance with operating procedures and standard company policies and practices.
- Solves production problems and resolves conflicts throughout the production floor.
- Leads by example while providing both positive and corrective feedback.
- Signs off Assembly Workers on in-house competency forms when required.
- Monitors and ensures all Assembly Workers are following all prescribed Safety Procedures and PPE requirements, and provides leadership, guidance, and correction as required.
- Ensures the work areas are maintained in a clean and orderly manner.
- Responsible for the work of the assigned assembly line.
- Assists with interviewing new staff members and decisions to hire
- Deliver performance/coaching and/or disciplinary conversations as needed, with HR assistance if required.
- Participates in employee interviews, hiring and terminations as needed.
- Prepares and verifies labour edits as required for Assembly staff.

**Assembly**:

- Follows diagrams and instructions using Standard Operating Procedures; assists in developing and updating SOPs as needed.
- Ensures an orderly flow of parts and pre-assembled material to the Assembly Floor.
- Retrieves painted parts for proper assembly.
- Ensures correct components from the warehouse are available to ensure smooth assembly process.
- Pays attention to stock levels i.e. wire, airlines, supplies.

**Planning / Scheduling**:

- Collaborate with all departments to plan the assembly process on a daily basis.
- Coordinates activities in association with parts components available.
- Sets timelines for component completion.

**Final Assembly Review**:

- Checks final assembly and identifies processes that have not been completed.
- Performs or assigns remediation as required.
- Organization of QA checks during assembly process to ensure defect-free work.

**Projects / Other Assignments**:

- Works on related projects or initiatives as assigned.
- May be assigned to other areas or work assignments as required.

Qualifications:

- **Education**
- Grade 12
- Mechanical or construction courses desirable
- Proficient with Microsoft software
- **Experience**
- Related experience is preferred. Experience as an Assembly Worker is required.
- Construction or manufacturing experience is desirable.
- Leadership experience is an asset
- **Training**
- Fall Restraint and Overhead Crane Operator certifications will be required.
- Other certificates may be needed including Confined Space Entry, Forklift Operator.

- A sound knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes.
