Payroll Specialist

Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the Payroll Specialist will support the timely processing of employee payroll for three separate companies. This position will support various analysis, review, reconciliation, and completion of monthly reporting activities to maintain the accuracy and integrity of financial information. The Payroll Specialist will liaise with many internal and external stakeholders with a strong attention to detail to maintain the reliability and dependability of the reported financial results.
This role will also support the accounting team to ensure all payroll & benefit accounts are properly recorded and reflected during the monthly closing process.
**Key Job Responsibilities**
**Payroll**
- Provide payroll support and process the payrolls, from beginning to end, for all companies
- Verify payroll adjustments/pay data from all sources
- Support and help resolve all enquiries related to payroll, providing accurate and consistent interpretation of policies and procedures
- Review and audit new hires and terminations to ensure accurate and complete documentation
- Administration of the group benefit plans as well as the Group RRSP
- Reconcile and prepare journal entries, periodic remittance requests of Union dues, group benefit invoices, WSIB, etc.
- Review and audit of timesheets and work with managers to resolve errors and address issues
- Assist in the production of year-end tax slips and related year end summary filings and rollover activities into the new year
- Ensure compliance with respective Federal and Provincial payroll legislation and the CBA
- Initiate and participate with process improvement initiatives
- Maintain strict confidentiality
**Accounting**
- Responsible for end-to-end reconciliation of payroll and benefit related costs
- Will work closely with internal and external customers to obtain relevant data to resolve issues
- Analyze and reconcile employee GL accounts ensuring any discrepancies are resolved
- Assist with process improvement initiatives
**Experience, Skills and Abilities**
- 3+ years Payroll experience with working knowledge of integrated HRIS system such as **Ceridian Dayforce**:
- Highly organized and detail oriented with thorough follow-up skills
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
- Able to meet deadlines and work under pressure with interruptions and conflicting priorities
- An independent, logical, methodical thinker who also thrives working as part of a team
- Eager to learn and take on new challenges
- Working towards a payroll designation an asset
**Working Conditions**
The Payroll Specialist works in an office environment and/or home-office remote work environment.
This is a hybrid role, working a balance of days in the office and remotely.
Flexibility required. Depending on business demands (such as working on a statutory holiday and observing an alternate day off in lieu).
Some travel will be required to other Ippolito locations on occasion.
