Position Title: Health and Safety Manager

Reports to: Director of Operations, Chief Executive Officer

Location: Head office Edmonton

Job Summary:
The Health and Safety Manager serves as the head of the Health Safety & Environment (HSE) department, overseeing all aspects of health, safety, and environmental compliance within the organization. The incumbent will be responsible for leading HSE initiatives, developing and implementing safety policies and procedures, and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements in industrial, oil and gas environments, particularly in Scaffold and Concrete trade projects. The Health and Safety Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote a culture of safety and mitigate risks associated with operations.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead the Health Safety & Environment (HSE) department, providing strategic direction and guidance to ensure the effective management of health, safety, and environmental risks.

2. Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety programs, policies, and procedures in alignment with regulatory standards, industry best practices, and organizational goals.

3. Conduct regular audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify hazards, evaluate risks, and implement appropriate control measures to minimize workplace incidents and injuries.

4. Provide expert advice and support to project teams, managers, and employees on health and safety matters, including hazard recognition, safety training, and emergency response protocols.

5. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to integrate safety considerations into project planning, design, and execution processes, ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety regulations and contractual requirements.

6. Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action planning to prevent recurrence of accidents, injuries, and near misses, and facilitate continuous improvement in safety performance.

7. Monitor and analyze HSE performance metrics and trends, preparing reports and presentations for senior management to drive accountability and facilitate data-driven decision-making.

8. Foster a culture of safety excellence by promoting awareness, engagement, and participation in safety initiatives, training programs, and behavior-based safety practices.

9. Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and regulatory developments in the field of health and safety, proactively identifying opportunities for process improvements and innovation.

10. Serve as a liaison with regulatory agencies, industry associations, and other external stakeholders on matters related to health, safety, and environmental compliance.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field; advanced degree or professional certification, preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in health, safety, and environmental management, with a focus on industrial, oil and gas safety, particularly in Scaffold and Concrete trade projects.
- Strong leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to effectively supervise and develop a diverse team of HSE professionals.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Proven track record of driving continuous improvement in safety performance, implementing best practices, and achieving measurable results.
- Proficient in MS Office suite and HSE management systems/software.

Pay: $100,000.00-$150,000.00 per year
