YMCA Of Northern Alberta is seeking a Health & Safety Manager who, while reporting to the Chief People & Culture Officer, will work closely with operations teams to build, maintain, implement, and consistently improve Healthy, Safety and Child Protection Policies & Practices within our programs, ultimately working to maintain a strong safety culture within our Association.
**Position Responsibilities**
- Partner with the Chief People & Culture Officer to develop and implement a multi-year strategic safety plan.
- Build a strong safety-first culture through employee engagement, strong health and safety management programs, and training
- Lead internal health and safety audits, routine site inspections, and closing of compliance gaps to establish high safety standards and compliance with YMCA and OHS requirements
- Oversee COR and YMCA Canada Child Protection Audits; lead the development of action plans related to gap analysis of these audits.
- Partner with operations teams to proactively identify, assess, analyze, and mitigate job hazards; and establish high effectiveness of controls and processes to eliminate safety risks
- Engage, motivate, and train employees on safety roles and responsibilities, accountabilities, and processes to maintain a safe workplace
- Oversee incident investigations, reporting, and management
- Lead safety reporting; ensure high transparency and visibility to safety metrics.
- Oversee onboarding and on the job safety training programs for employees and volunteers.
- Oversee Joint Health and Safety committee program
- Monitor existing and incoming relevant legislation and regulations to ensure all operations meet requirements and that health and safety management programs are up to date
- Work in compliance with OH&S acts and regulations
- Oversee a small team, including a Health, Safety & Child Protection Advisor and a Health & Safety Administrator
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
**What You’ll Need**
- Completed post-secondary in Health and Safety, or related field or equivalent work experience
- 5+ years of work experience required in Health and Safety
- Prior experience leading a team in a large complex organization
- Demonstrated experience in providing high quality customer experience, building a safety culture, communicating to get team member buy-in
- Excellent organizational skills with ability to perform administrative tasks with high degree of accuracy
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), including active listening and proofreading
- Ability to perform at a high level in a fast paced and dynamic work environment
- Ability to demonstrate good, sound judgment
