**Some of what you will do**:
The overall purpose of the role is to provide leadership and management of the Payroll and Benefits Admin team and to ensure regulatory and legislative compliance and timely and accurate processing of payroll information, special reports and administration of benefits for all associates.

**Specifically, You Will**:
Leadership
- Responsible for managing, providing guidance and motivation to the overall team
- Support the Senior Manager, Payroll and Benefits Admin in the collaboration with other functional areas, including Staples US, and external parties regarding regular and ad hoc activities such as payroll processing, benefits administration, processing of hires and terminations, year end reconciliations, and projects
- Monitor individuals and team’s workload and keep direct Manager informed of risks. Provide recommendations to address such risks
- Manage the onboarding and training of new team members
- Improve and enhance operational effectiveness and productivity, drive change and identify opportunities for sustainable improvements. Implement appropriate controls to safeguard assets and mitigate risks
- Provide backup support for the Senior Manager, Payroll and Benefits Admin

Payroll Processing Shared Services
- Manage the delivery of shared services to ensure the timely and accurate processing of payroll data for five payrolls that support the Canadian Staples businesses
- Work with different HR departments and lead team to process unique payroll items on a timely and accurate basis
- Ensure the audit of payroll outputs is performed in a timely and accurate manner by the team
- Provide backup support to ensure interfaces between internal and external systems are completed successfully

Benefits Administration Shared Services
- Manage and maintain the accuracy and integrity of the benefits feed to third party administrator.
- Manage all activities related to benefits admin that are not handled by the third party administrator
- Liaise with the company’s benefits providers in order to validate policies and coverage
- Collaborate with HR departments to ensure strategic initiatives are supported for changes in external service providers, policies and coverage

Internal / External Communication - Customer Service
- Provide customer service and support on a timely basis to all Canadian Staples businesses, and all associates as required
- Ensure associates understand payroll and benefits coverage and responds to all questions and concerns
- Handle all escalated calls and inquiries from associates

Projects
- Participate in cross functional projects, cross border projects and cross SBU projects providing functional expertise and recommendations that not only represent the best interest of the department but the overall business
- Support projects that impact payroll and benefits admin, including resources planning, requirements gathering, user acceptance testing, etc.
- Initiate, prioritize and obtain approval for projects that lead to innovation and efficiencies for the department and the business
- Identify obstacles, take initiatives, make recommendations and execute necessary actions to overcome issues to ensure successful completion of projects

**Some of what you need**:

- Post secondary education with a focus on payroll and benefits administration or equivalent work experience
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or Certified Payroll Manager (CPM)
- 4-6 years of management experience with a payroll system supporting multiple payrolls, for multiple business units and companies, using multiple systems, with multiple compensation plans and policies across all provinces in Canada
- Minimum of 3 years of benefits administration experience working with benefits providers and an online benefits tool (enrolment and product system)
- Minimum of 4 years of management experience working with time and attendance
- Strong technical knowledge and understanding of provincial and federal payroll legislation
- Strong knowledge and understanding of benefit programs
