**Engagement and Policy Manager - Environment & Climate Change**

**Location**: Métis Nation of Alberta Provincial Head Office (Edmonton, AB)

**Position Status**: Full Time (40 hrs per week), Permanent

**The Organization**

**The Opportunity**
- Reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions;
- Creating opportunities for the MNA (such as income, equity, cost savings);
- Creating opportunities for MNA citizens (such as income, training, cost savings, careers);
- Increasing MNA and MNA citizens capacity to implement climate change action; and
- Increasing understanding of climate change in the community.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Lead and support a team of engagement and policy professionals in designing, implementing, and reporting on community engagement activities, including in-person and online events.
- Create citizens and stakeholder engagement plans, including identifying resource and time requirements.
- Gather, analyze and report on public engagement feedback using appropriate tools.
- Monitor participant experience and satisfaction of public engagement activities.
- Recommend strategies, policies, or actions aimed at addressing stakeholder concerns.
- Oversee project management to ensure effective milestone planning and timely completion of deliverables.
- Assist in efforts aimed at increasing the MNA’s capacity to implement sustainability actions.
- Assist the MNA in environment and climate change-related policy discussions with government and industry.
- Maintain awareness of government policies and programs related to Environment and Climate Change.
- Lead the review process of promotional and educational print and digital materials.
- Manage the team’s workload and flow, analyze departmental operations, and identify areas requiring improvement.
- Collaborate in staffing responsibilities and perform supervisory duties such as hiring and training staff, evaluating, assigning job duties, and developing and overseeing staff work plans.
- Mentor team members through feedback, coaching, and formal evaluations and provide effective leadership to the team.
- Draft effective project proposals to secure funding to support departmental objectives. Manage budgets, deliverables, workplans, and resources to meet the obligations under funding agreements.
- Draft memorandums, briefing notes, and reports.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships and partnerships with governments, funders, industry, non-profits, communities, citizens and other internal and external stakeholders.
- Other duties as required.

**Skills & Competencies**
- Experience with effective public engagement design, implementation, and reporting, including facilitating and delivering internal and external meetings, workshops, or engagements.
- Experience with strategic planning, including establishing short and long-term plans to meet key objectives of projects/initiatives.
- Experience in managing a team with multiple concurrent projects, with potentially competing priorities and budgets. Proven ability to produce quality work.
- Experience with grant proposals, work plans, budgets and deliverable reports, and drafting processes, policies, and procedures.
- Knowledge on climate action and environmental sustainability, including in topics such as energy management, renewable energy, energy efficiency, water use reduction, waste reduction, sustainable transportation, and other sustainability topics.
- Knowledge and/or experience working in government/on government policies is an asset.
- Training in Public Participation/Engagement is an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce professional documents and presentations that target and convey messages to different audiences.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
- Excellent analytical thinking, prioritization, and execution skills.
- Ability to identify issues and implement creative and strategic solutions to overcome problems.
- Culturally sensitive and compassionate.
- Political sensitivity and ability to deal with confidential information.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a proven track record of building collaborative partnerships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including government, industry, service providers, and community.
- Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and people is a definite asset.

**Qualifications**
- Minimum of a Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Indigenous Studies, Community Engagement, Community Development, Planning, Communications, Sociology, Anthropology, Environmental Sciences, Alternative Energy, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of progressive experience leading or implementing community engagement projects or initiatives, including gathering feedback on communities’ needs, advising on plans to address them, and presenting to multiple audiences.
- Minimum 2 years supervisory
