As part of the Public Health Division, the Indigenous Health Policy Unit is responsible for the developing and supporting activities that help improve the health and well-being of Indigenous peoples.

The Unit works to identify and implement innovative solutions to solve complex Indigenous health challenges and policy problems. The Unit works to provide an Indigenous lens to the strategic priorities, legislation, and policy and program development within the Ministry, Alberta Health Services (AHS), and other Government of Alberta Ministries, where appropriate.

The Unit develops, leverages, and strengthens relationships between the Ministry, the federal government (Health Canada, and Indigenous Services Canada - First Nations Inuit Health Branch), AHS, and Indigenous communities to identify and implement collaborative activities to address health inequities between Indigenous peoples and other Albertans.

**_Manager - Indigenous Health Policy (M2)_**
You will be responsible for leading a small but passionate and engaging team that is responsible for providing leadership, advice, and assistance in the Ministry’s Indigenous health policy, strategy, and engagement efforts, including the identification and analysis of strategic responses for Indigenous issues facing the Ministry and the Government of Alberta (GoA).

The Manager establishes and maintains positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Alberta Health Services, the federal government, and Indigenous communities and organizations, to support the development of collaborative strategies and actions to improve Indigenous health outcomes and achieve Ministry priorities.

This position is responsible for developing Alberta Health's policy statements and positions to clarify federal/provincial/First Nations responsibilities for health, and will lead and assist in the development of Alberta Health and Government of Alberta recommendations for integrating provincial health services within Indigenous communities to support improved health outcomes.

**_Manager - Indigenous Engagement and Partnerships (M2)_**
You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining effective relationships internally with other colleagues within the Ministry of Health; externally with other jurisdictions, government departments, and agencies; representatives of First Nations and Metis organizations; and key stakeholders relating to Indigenous health issues for the purpose of ensuring optimal integration of business goals and Ministry objectives. In particular, the position provides essential supports for Department executive leadership participating in multilateral discussions and collaborations at formal and informal venues, particularly Protocol Agreement and Framework Agreement Health Tables. The Manager is also responsible for aiding cross-ministry committee support and coordinating department positions related to Human Trafficking, TRC, Sixties Scoop, Residential Schools, and supporting/coordinating Jordan's Principle claims and inquires, and managing cross-ministry and cross-jurisdictional work related to Jordan's Principle.

Some of the Manager’s duties and attributes includes:

- Developing strategic approaches for Indigenous health policy by synthesizing and analyzing complex material from diverse sources, often in collaboration with colleagues internally and in other jurisdictions, and First Nations and Métis organizations.
- Provides expert advice to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Deputy Minister, and Minister on Indigenous health, and support discussions on health issues, including emerging trends in Alberta and nationally, and represent Alberta Health's interests in Indigenous-related Government of Alberta cross-ministry initiatives.
- Having a keen knowledge of Indigenous peoples’ histories, cultures and communities in Alberta, as well as extensive knowledge of legislation and policies affecting Indigenous peoples generally and health and health care in particular

**Qualifications**:
University graduation in a field related to (Public Policy, Public Administration, Indigenous Studies or related field), plus four years related experience.
