The Academic Advising & Career Centre (AA&CC) embraces a holistic philosophy in its delivery of integrated academic advising, learning skills, career development and employment coaching services to students. With a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, the department operates as a cross-functional team working closely with campus partners to support student success and retention, foster student engagement and strengthen the student experience at UTSC.

**Your opportunity**:
**Your responsibilities will include**:

- Providing advanced academic and learning skills counselling
- Interpreting rules and regulations to determine appropriate referrals
- Advocating on behalf of students with internal and external contacts/agencies
- Advising students on personal and academic issues by probing and providing a range of options and possible consequences
- Advising on the appropriateness, precedents and process for petitions and appeals, and suggesting alternative course of action as necessary
- Probing for information from students to develop educational outlines in keeping with their career and life goals
- Making informed referrals and supporting an individual in distress until referral contact is made
- Keeping well-informed on faculty requirements, the University structure, academic policies and procedures, and specific learning requirements within courses and programs

**Essential Qualifications**:

- Master's Degree in Education, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Three (3) years' related academic advising experience in a fast paced post-secondary student affairs/services department, and strong familiarity with University programs, services, academic requirements, policies, procedures and overarching campus and university structures
- Experience with student success strategies, programs, resources and technology
- Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to learn and utilize theoretical approaches to academic and learning skills success for students in transition, students at-risk, and student development more broadly
- Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Access), as well as Student Information Systems
- Must possess a student-focused commitment to excellence and innovation, with strong interpersonal, relationship development, presentation, and verbal and written communication skills
- Must have strong organizational and time management skills, accuracy and attention to detail, and be able to multi-task and problem solve with a proactive solutions focus
- Have a high level of cross-cultural awareness, understanding and sensitivity
- Ability to demonstrate integrity, professional maturity, judgment, tact, diplomacy and have the ability to maintain confidentiality
- Must be flexible and adaptable with a high level of initiative and results orientation
- Demonstrated strength working as a team player, with a student success commitment and the capacity to handle a challenging workload in a calm, professional and proactive manner
- Must show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment
