- Study setup and initiation focusing on developing electronic consent and data capture using REDcap (note: REDCap training can be provided to upskill to meet the requirements of this position)
- Navigating administrative processes in the clinical setting relating to research study start-up and ongoing data collection
- Identify and evaluate patient eligibility for inclusion and enrolment in research studies
- Obtain patient informed consent and maintain participant screening records
- Schedule and carry out study visits, administer surveys and questionnaires, and perform data collection via in-person, telephone, hardcopy mailout and internet-based mediums
- Perform chart reviews and extract pertinent clinical information relevant to research studies
- Liaise between research participants, staff, and investigators, and keep meticulous records
- Extract and record data from databases or medical charts, and maximize data quality
- Accurate and timely completion and submission of paper and electronic data capture forms
- Develop, update and maintain study databases and source document worksheets
- Ensure adherence to and maintenance of protocols and associated documents
- Perform data entry and manage clinical and research databases with accuracy
- Prepare and participate in audits and study monitoring visits from various regulatory bodies
- Maintain electronic and paper research files
- Organize and present in meetings to report on project progress
- Maintain strict confidentiality related to identification and release of study data

The Clinical Research Assistant will report directly to the Clinical Research Program Manager, who is under the supervision of the Research Director and Division Head. The incumbent will also report to and receive direction from the Principal Investigator of each assigned project. The Clinical Research Assistant works with physicians and staff in the emergency department, the inpatient orthopaedic ward and the outpatient orthopaedic trauma clinic at Vancouver General Hospital. Coordination with administrative personnel is essential in order to complete study requirements and obtain patient information for data collection and submission.
- **Qualifications**_

University degree in a health-related discipline and 1-5 years of recent related experience in a clinical research setting. Experience in sales, marketing or client relationships will be considered an asset.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, excellent organizational skills and ability to exercise good judgment and discretion while working with confidential information and vulnerable populations
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Clear ability to establish rapport with patients, communicate clearly, be a good listener, and have the ability to assess a situation and respond accordingly
- Knowledge of medical and surgical terminologies, as well as familiarity with the conduct of directed musculoskeletal exams and measurements, are considered assets
- Dedication to accuracy and attention to detail
- Accept responsibility and work independently under mínimal supervision
- Solid judgment and a proven ability to maintain confidentiality, tact and discretion in interactions and in handling sensitive information
- Ability to prioritize work, multi-task, and to meet deadlines and schedules
- Work on multiple projects without compromising the integrity of each project
- Ability to learn new software, including website maintenance and troubleshooting
- Ability to work both independently and within a team environment

The Clinical Research Assistant will work on-site in-person with a team of research staff, administrative staff, physicians, nurses and liaise with other healthcare professionals to ensure that each research study is conducted to meet or exceed regulatory and institutional standards.
