**Job Summary**

The research assistant will work directly with the Principal Investigator and senior research staff in the Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction Research program at BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute, to support various research initiatives, which will include: REDCap database design and development, research personnel administration; grant administration and facilitation; the coordination of knowledge translation/outreach activities; research ethics and regulatory administration.

**Organizational Status**

The incumbent reports to the Principal Investigator and the senior research staff and has working relationships with other clinicians, faculty, staff and students within the research program and department.

**Typical Work Tasks Performed (but not limited to these tasks only)**
- Helps coordinates research activities for international multicentre research projects.
- Helps with the development of REDCap databases for research projects working closely with the REDCap data management team and other investigators.
- Coordinates preparation and submission of research related regulatory documents (ethics, permits, etc.).
- Supports research operations, including: coordinating and performing patient recruitment; data collection/management/reporting
- Supports research project administration, including: providing service to recruit/onboard/support collaborating sites; helps in maintaining research agreements and coordinating project updates to various participants and stakeholders.
- Facilitates and supports recruitment, onboarding, training and supervision of student and other team members.
- Facilitates project communication, tracking and updates among the research program members. Actively supports social media initiatives of the research program.
- Coordinates meetings for research and clinical team as well as project-specific meetings.
- Assists with preparing and submitting manuscripts for publication.
- Assists with research program communications, including presentations, newsletters, and webpages.
- Assists the PI in coordinating initiatives for the Canadian Pediatric Orthopaedic Society and Canadian Pediatric Orthopaedic Trauma Course

**Consequence of Error/Judgement**

Failure to plan or follow up on initiatives and poor judgment or errors dealing with such matters would have an adverse effect on the research program’s productivity, reputation, and operational management. Ability to work collaboratively and exercise sound judgment in dealing with administrative matters where there may be no established policies, procedures or guidelines is essential.

Errors in the management of research agreements and practices could result in unusable data and damage to reputation and relationships with collaborators and contributors. Errors in the management of accounts, as well as errors in reporting procedures, could result in a waste of financial resources, non-renewal of research funding, or loss of currently held funding. Inadequate documentation, organization, communication, and planning may adversely affect the image and reputation of the research program and its parent organizations (BCCHRI, UBC, PHSA).

**Qualifications**

Minimum of an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline or Graduation from a technical college or institute. Minimum of two years of related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working with REDCap database including the design of new studies is an asset. Experience working with researchers within an academic community is strongly preferred, including familiarity with CIHR grants submission processes and research ethics (RISe). Experience with project management and communications. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, basic graphic design, and webpage maintenance. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.. Appropriate knowledge of UBC and PHSA admin procedures preferred. Experience with clinical research procedures strongly preferred.

**Contract length**: 12 months minimum with the possibility of extension based on availability of funding
