**GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION**:
To manage media communications for HSI/Canada and Friends of HSI, including: development of communications strategies, production of communications assets, networking with media and community stakeholders, building and maintaining media lists, identification and implementation of innovative systems and approaches to disseminating news, monitoring of media for relevant developments and development, maintenance and oversight of digital assets.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
1. Development of national media strategies for HSI/Canada and Friends of HSI. 10

2. Expansion and maintenance of comprehensive media database for HSI/Canada, including networking with key media stakeholders. 10%

3. Research and identification of innovative approaches and systems for communication of HSI/Canada and Friends of HSI news to Canadian media and the public. 5%

4. Planning and implementation of specific PR campaigns, including placement of paid advertising. 15%

5. Regular review of analytics to monitor and evaluate reach and impact. 5%

6. Drafting, editing, distribution and pitching of news releases and other communications tools. 20%

7. Management of digital assets including drafting, editing and posting content. 25%

8. Coordination of assets production and approvals. 10%

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**:

- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations or related field, or equivalent combination of work and education related experience.
- At least five years of experience in communications or a related field.

**NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**:
1. Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English and French.

2. Superior analytical and strategic planning skills.

3. Excellent organizational skills, including ability to prioritize responsibilities and meet deadlines.

4. Proven track record of development and management of digital communications assets.

5. Thorough knowledge of Canadian media and news distribution systems.

6. Strong knowledge of WordPress and other digital platforms.

7. Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines; high energy, self-motivated and proactive.

8. Attention to detail and commitment to excellence, demonstrated by the delivery of quality and timely outcomes.

9. Ability to work outside of regular business hours on occasion.

10. Ability to work with remote colleagues, including those in other countries.

11. Personal belief in and support for HSI/Canada’s mission and core values.

12. Experience with, knowledge of and interest in animal protection issues is preferred.
