**Role**:
The Intergovernmental Relations and Engagement Branch leads the development and implementation of Environment and Protected Areas’ intergovernmental strategy (domestic, national, and international) to advance the Ministry’s key priorities.

Reporting to the Director of Intergovernmental Relations, these positions (1 Permanent, 1 Temporary - 16 months) play an essential role in furthering effective intergovernmental relations that support department and government-wide priorities. These positions plays a significant role in developing and implementing a strategic approach to advance the Ministry’s intergovernmental agenda, priorities and relationships.

These positions identify and address external pressures by liaising and leveraging relationships with various intergovernmental contacts both nationally and internationally, and by preparing and advising senior officials and elected representatives on domestic and international engagements, meetings, and missions. Additionally, these positions support and coach department staff to advance Alberta’s interests in intergovernmental forums to achieve the province's economic aspirations.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

- Advancing Alberta's integrated resource management objectives through effective intergovernmental relations.
- Assessing and managing emerging intergovernmental issues that can impact the Ministry’s ability to achieve its priorities and objectives.
- Ensuring effective departmental participation in intergovernmental forums and relationships.
- Supporting the planning, development and execution of strategic programs and international missions conducted by the Minister.
- Providing strategic advice to the department by analyzing emerging intergovernmental issues, researching and writing briefings, preparing and delivering presentations, designing information materials and drafting correspondence.
- Enhancing department staff knowledge and capacity on to support effective intergovernmental relations.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**:

- University graduation in a related field such as Political Science, International Business, Policy Development or Public Administration supplemented by a minimum of four years of progressive responsibility and experience in fields such as project management, policy development or stakeholder engagement.

**Equivalency**:Related education or experience is considered on the basis of:

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

**Assets**:

- Experience making recommendations and developing briefing notes, reports and/or presentations for senior leadership.
- Agility, with a focus on the ability to anticipate, assess and readily adapt to shifting priorities while maintaining a positive and productive work environment
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Conflict management and resolution experience.
- Strong analytical skills to identify potential issues and recommend appropriate courses of action.
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision, with initiative to remain productive and task-oriented.
