**Duties**:
This position reports to the PDT Manager or designate for Professional Development and Training Cowichan Campus. The Program Assistant will perform department tasks as assigned to assist in the development and implementation of programs and must be comfortable working independently and as part of a team. The Program Assistant will have extensive contact with instructors, students and with other VIU departments, community agencies and resources. The workload is non-repetitive and unique in nature.

The Program Assistant will perform tasks related to, but not limited to:

- instructor and student support;
- contract implementation support, program and/or course implementation;
- record-keeping and reporting;
- manage and review purchasing and expenditures related to program areas assigned;
- program infrastructure needs and is aware of relevant policy and procedures related to job functions.

**Required Qualifications**:
Two-year Business Diploma, or equivalent, from an appropriately accredited institution. Five to seven years recent relevant experience. A combination of education and experience may be considered.

Intermediate-level proficiency in word processing and MS Office suite of programs. Proficiency using excel and/or other reporting software to monitor, analyze budgets. Demonstrated file management and understanding of a network and shared files. Demonstrated skills in developing and maintaining systems and procedures. Ability to manage, organize and prioritize workload while paying attention to detail; to work independently. Demonstrated skill in working effectively both independently and in a team setting. Demonstrated ability to work under pressure with strict deadlines. Demonstrated experience and skills in providing direct service to the public. Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment, tact and diplomacy, problem-solving skills, and excellent communication skills (written and verbal). Demonstrated experience with details of course/program implementation; event and meeting planning and minute taking. Flexibility in managing workload. Familiarity with key organizations relevant to contract training in the Cowichan area.

**Preferred Qualifications**:
Knowledge of financial, student course database systems (CESB, Unit 4 ERP, FIS and SRS). LERN Certified Program Planner.
