Job Summary:
This position is based out of the White River First Nation (WRFN) Lands Department office in

Whitehorse, Yukon. The Lands and Resource Coordinator will work closely with the Lands Manager

to perform a variety of tasks supporting WRFN land and community interests. These tasks fall into

three broad categories: 1) technical work including environmental assessment and mapping; 2) Land

based trips to increase WRFN presence on the land in their Traditional Territory and to interact with

WRFN members; 3) consultation and negotiation to ensure that WRFN rights and interests are

of people daily, including representatives of other governments, consultants, various project

proponents, WRFN members and WRFN staff. An understanding of the environmental assessment

process, natural history and GIS are important skills for this position as well as the ability to express

the interests of WRFN in potential conflictual situations.

Duties and responsibilities:
Manage and organize files, correspondence, communications, and financials with Government

Agencies and third parties.

Act as first line of contact to citizens requesting information from the Department.

Build relationships with WRFN community members, host community meetings and

gatherings.

Organize and plan communication material, mailouts, presentations, and other logístical needs.

Maintain the WRFN lands website and consultation portal.

Represent the interests of WRFN at various steering committees, working groups and planning

processes.

Participate in government-to-government Consultation processes to ensure that the rights and

interests of WRFN are upheld.

Assists the Lands and Resources Manager on as needed basis.

Organize and run land-based activities and camps.

Other duties as required.

Working conditions:
Work is split between a normal office environment and possible exposure to inclement weather

and varied temperatures when conducting field work such as going to the First Nation camps and

gatherings. Usual working days are Monday to Friday, with every other Friday off. Occasional

evening and weekend work may be necessary. Willingness to travel to Beaver Creek at least once

a month to conduct engagement with members is mandatory.

Skills and Experience

Experience taking notes, minutes and maintaining project tracking tables.

Organize and plan communication material, mailouts, presentations, community meetings, and

other logistics.

Post-Secondary Education in Office Administration, Business Administration or a related

field and/or combination of experience in an office management setting

Experience working for or in partnership with a First Nation Government (considered an asset)

Experience working in the natural resource sector doing tasks such as permitting, engagement

and environmental assessment (considered an asset).

Strong client service and interpersonal skills

Excellent organization and time management skills

Self-directed learner

Understanding of appropriate and respectful handling of cultural knowledge

Willingness to travel and work irregular hours at times.

Pleasure Craft Operators Certificate, Wilderness First Aid, Possession and Acquisition

License, Snowmobile Operators Certificate are considered assets.

Hunting, general outdoor, power boat operation, snowmobile operation, etc. are considered

assets as well.
