Join the vibrant and dynamic team at Kwanlin Dün First Nation (KDFN) as a Youth Outreach & Wellness Coordinator As a key member of our multidisciplinary Justice team, you will provide outreach support to children, youth and families in their home, community and on-the-land setting. Reporting to the Manager of Family Support and Community Engagement, you’ll have the opportunity to make an impact by offering direct support and advocacy to high-risk and vulnerable youth. The Youth Outreach & Wellness Coordinator helps KDFN youth enhance their sense of identity and connection to their culture, and build on their determination. The Youth Outreach & Wellness Coordinator is responsible for the development, facilitation and evaluation of youth specific community and land-based programs. They work collaboratively with other KDFN departments such as Education, Recreation, Lands and Health. Additionally, the Youth Outreach & Wellness Coordinator will help implement appropriate counselling support and crisis intervention as needed.

Working harmoniously with other justice-based staff, inter-governmental staff, non-profit organizations and inter-departmental staff specific to client case management is essential for success.

Required Qualifications (what we look for on your resume):
Bachelor’s Degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Health, or a related field (equivalency’s may be considered);

Experience in programs such as mental health, wellness or a related field;

Experience providing support to youth in the areas of trauma, violence, abuse, addictions and residential school direct and intergenerational effects;

Experience in planning and facilitating First Nation traditional land-based recreation and programs and projects;

Knowledge of and experience working successfully in a First Nation community is an asset.

Required knowledge and skills (what we assess):
Considerable relevant knowledge around KDFN and Yukon First Nation culture and tradition including a level of demonstrated investment in the community;

Knowledge and proficiency in community-based mental health and addictions with a youth focus;

A demonstrated interest and experience in community, cultural, wellness, and land-based healing modalities and working with traditional helpers;

Strong communication and interpersonal skills;

Ability to work independently and as part of a team; and

Cultural competence and sensitivity to the diverse needs of youth and families.

Knowledge of Kwanlin Dün First Nation governance structure, our community, heritage and culture, social structure, language and traditions, goals, and aspirations are essential for success in this position.

Conditions of employment:

- An acceptable criminal record check with vulnerable sector search
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s license and personal transportation
- First Aid & CPR certification (willingness to obtain within 3 months)
- Demonstrate and maintain a healthy, self-sufficient lifestyle

Job Requirements:
Willingness to flexible working schedule which can include weekends and holidays when camps or activities are being run.

Ability to lead and participate in outdoor recreation/traditional land-based activities. This includes physical fitness and project management skills and abilities.
