**Your role**

- CBC News Network, Canada’s number one live and breaking news network, is looking for an on-air host for weekend evenings. The range of news and the expectations of our audience require you to be an engaging, energetic, spontaneous and enthusiastic on-air personality.
- Weekend programming requires a blend of the immediate, context and looking ahead. You’re a natural story-teller with a fearless ability to ask any question. You can translate complex stories into personal terms that make sense for the widest possible audience. And you thrive amid the energy of live conversation and breaking news. You’re attuned to the changing face of Canada and the stories that matter to people in all parts of the country.
- You have a keen interest in breaking news and breaking developments on the top stories of the day. You are comfortable going off script and ad libbing around any type of news story.
- As a leader, you’re a mentor, a coach and a collaborator. You work in partnership with the senior and executive producers to create dynamic coverage and bring the best out of the team daily.
- Insatiable curiosity, openness to diverse perspectives and ideas, and a sense of humour are characteristics you embody both on-air and behind the scenes. You live and promote the values of an inclusive and respectful work culture. Your work is governed by and follows CBC Journalistic Standards and Practices and programming policies.

**This permanent part-time position is based in Toronto or Vancouver, with scheduled shifts Saturday 2 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. ET / 11 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. PT, and Sunday 12:15 p.m. to 9 p.m. ET / 9:15 a.m. to 6 p.m. PT.**

**Job requirements**:

- Present live and breaking news on-air in a clear, engaging and professional manner.
- Navigate live and pre-taped interviews.
- Steer multiple stories and topics on-air during breaking and live coverage.
- Write and revise intros and scripts to maximize personal voice for on-air.
- Perform off script and be comfortable ad-libbing the latest details seamlessly into reporting, especially where information is sometimes scant or changing frequently.
- Pitch relevant story ideas, guests, and treatments.
- Work collaboratively with producers and writers to develop show concepts and continuity.
- Provide constructive feedback on editorial, broadcast, and production aspects of programming.
- Vet scripts for facts and voice, as required.
- Develop and maintain diverse journalistic contacts.
- Travel to field assignments and breaking news coverage, as required.
- Participate in public outreach and community events, as required.
- Backfill in other host shifts across the week, as required.

**Relevant qualifications**:

- Minimum five years of experience in journalism reporting and/or hosting, or in a relevant field.
- University degree or equivalent.
- Superb journalistic skills and experience, including broadcast writing, storytelling, interviewing, researching, and fact-checking.
- Superior critical thinking and analytical skills and the ability to make complex stories and issues easily understood.
- Deep understanding of news and current affairs in Canada and abroad, with a particular knowledge or interest in the intersectionality and experiences of underrepresented communities.
- Knowledge, interest and ability to report on a range of topics including politics, arts, culture, sports, business, and entertainment.
- Experience conducting one-on-one conversations and panel discussions.
- Experience pitching program ideas, guests, topics, lining up interviews, and preparing backgrounds.
- Experience in news gathering in the field.
- Proven ability to motivate teams.
- Proven ability to work effectively under deadline pressure, both independently and co-operatively in a team environment.
