**The Opportunity**

CBC News is looking for an inspiring leader with a keen interest and expertise in international news to be our next World News Executive Producer.

This leader would drive international coverage with our mission top of mind: “CBC News is with you every day, making sense of our world together.”

As executive producer, you would lead the overall World News editorial strategy and directly supervise teams in Washington and New York. You would also oversee correspondents in Canada responsible for world news coverage, including the international climate team.

We need a leader with an inclusive approach who is organized and calm under pressure, and has creative ideas about building trust and loyalty with new audiences.

You must know how to navigate and prioritize relentless demands for reporting teams who deliver the highest quality audio, video and text news stories every day.

The physical and mental well-being of employees is a key responsibility of this role.

You’ll work with security teams, wellbeing leaders and management on planning for high-risk deployments and coordinating psychological supports for challenging assignments.

The position is based in Toronto and works in partnership with our Senior World Editor in London. It reports to the Senior Director of Newsgathering.

**What you do**:

- Develop overall editorial strategy for World News, in collaboration with the Senior World Editor in London and the Senior Director of Newsgathering
- Develop and implement editorial strategy for the international climate team, in close collaboration with the domestic Science/Climate team
- Supervise 16 World News employees in the U.S. and Canada
- Lead World News planning meetings and collaborate with domestic and international editorial leaders to determine daily news priorities
- Develop innovative content strategies to reach new audiences
- Collaborate with CBC News Specials in planning for major news event coverage
- Maintain contacts with other media leaders to coordinate on logistics and safety matters
- In conjunction with the Senior Director of Newsgathering, ensure journalistic goals and objectives are being met, in line with CBC journalistic standards.
- Work in collaboration with the Senior Director of Newsgathering and Senior World Editor on hiring and staffing of reporting teams focused on international news
- In collaboration with the Senior Director and Domestic Managing Editor, support the ongoing development of new and existing talent, with a focus on diversity and new skill sets.
- Guide teams through complex journalism and editorial standards, in association with senior leadership.
- Ensure that budgets are properly prepared and adhered to, and costs are tracked and controlled.

**What you bring**:

- Minimum of 8 years related editorial newsroom leadership experience.
- Strong journalistic experience and knowledge of multi-platform newsgathering
- Creativity, vision, and a commitment to the CBC News 5R’s content strategy
- Extensive experience with journalistic standards and practices.
- Creativity, vision and a strong understanding of journalistic craft, storytelling and program generation.
- Knowledge and understanding of audience measurement targets.
- Demonstrable leadership skills and experience to inspire and direct staff during periods of significant change.
- Experience guiding and developing on-air talent, craft and performance.
- Proven ability to find solutions to a variety of technical, resource and operational issues, make decisions to tight deadlines.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities while juggling tasks and/or projects.
- Strong analytical skills to solve complex journalistic and operational issues.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to be clear, concise, and precise on journalistic and programming matters.
- Knowledge of the law as it relates to broadcasting and journalism.
