Zaber is looking for a product manager to help us leverage our engineering and product development expertise to solve valuable motion control, automation, and microscopy problems in industries ranging from biotechnology to precision manufacturing.
As a Product Manager with a strong engineering background, you will gain a nuanced understanding of the goals, preferences, and technical challenges faced by our current and potential customers through direct conversations. Combining these insights with a detailed understanding of Zaber's technology "toolkit", engineering capabilities, and business model, you'll envision successful products to meet our customers' needs. You will translate customer requirements into engineering specifications, share your vision, and work with the team to develop and bring these products to market. With relentless resourcefulness, you'll pursue product success and take ownership of the products you manage.
This role presents an opportunity to learn about the latest motion control and automation technologies. Zaber develops and manufactures our own direct-drive linear and rotary motors, 1 nm nanometre resolution optical encoders, multi-axis motion controllers (including electronics, firmware, and software) and automated microscopes (including optics and motorized modules). We develop and use our own automated systems internally in manufacturing, testing, and quality control. As a product manager, you'll have the chance to have a large impact in shaping the future of the company as we continue to grow and find more ways to facilitate the advancement of science and technology.
Some product management experience would be an asset, however, experience talking to customers, developing products, and being relentlessly resourceful is what we're looking for.
**Product Manager Responsibilities**:
- Conduct market research and propose new products based on customer needs, and Zaber's technical capabilities and business needs.
- Write product requirement documents for new products and communicate the need and vision to other teams at Zaber.
- Work with a multidisciplinary team to develop and launch products.
- Identify, prioritize, and manage product improvement projects (feature additions, new variants, cost savings, quality improvements, etc )
- Take responsibility for the ongoing health of products you manage, regularly evaluating sales, margin, customer satisfaction, and other key metrics and making changes and improvements as required.
- Travel for trade shows and customer visits. Approximately 3-6 weeks per year.
**Product Manager Qualifications/Skills**:
- Degree in mechanical engineering, engineering physics, or similar background
- Passion for learning and continuous improvement.
- Curiosity - interest in gaining a deep, nuanced understanding of both new technology and customer needs
- Able to collaborate with Engineering teams (design, production engineering, sustaining eng.), understand design challenges and suggest engineering solutions
- Excellent verbal, and written communication skills.
**Product Manager Wage**:
- The starting wage for the role is $45 - $70/hour depending on experience.
