Operations Manager

Privately held and Canadian owned, Polefab Inc. and Sentinel Pole and Traffic Equipment Ltd., have been market leaders in the supply of Traffic and Roadway lighting products and accessories serving Ontario and parts of Canada.
Reporting to the ‘Parent Company’ board, the **Operations Manager** has responsibility for the operation of the Newmarket and Mississauga Office operating Monday - Friday.
- Collaborate with the board in progressing the Company vision, growth strategy, business model and operational plans.
- Review, improve and ensure the end-to-end operations/ workflows of the sales, design, purchasing, estimating, project management, shipping/logistics processes are efficient, effective, and meet contractual and regulatory requirements.
- Review and advise on the negotiation of all contracts with a keen eye for detail to ensure they are beneficial to the Company and aligned with strategic plans.
- Own Health and Safety for the operation - model the behaviour, monitor compliance, and initiate corrective actions when needed.
- Responsible for overall strategy, work processes and associated human resources with the overarching goal of ensuring value maximization, project quality, health and safety of workers, and risk management are all achieved.
- Review financial models to aid in decision making for company initiatives, growth plans, and in support of operational efficiency and efficacy.
- Establish and maintain ability to report on multiple projects simultaneously to have situational awareness of project milestones, schedule, inventory, scope, risk, costs, cashflow, compliance and safety.
- Ensure engineering/design can manage and balance demands from internal and external clients.
- Ensure shipping schedules, inventory and finished product levels meet forecasted sales and quality.
- Assist in developing and adhere to budgets, and report results to the board
- Proactive in awareness of marketplace challenges, new strategies, industry trends and activities of competitors to ensure both Polefab and Sentinel remain competitive and current in the marketplace.
- Strong in-person presence at both locations (3+ direct reports and 2+ indirect reports)
- Coach and support direct reports, guide them to coach and develop their direct reports. Find and foster key individuals and look to build them up and groom them for more senior roles within the organization.
- Responsible for safely continuously improving efficiency/ optimized inventory and departmental profitability while maintaining the overall operation.
- Recruit, onboard, train and performance manage employees.
- Work closely with sales, procurement, and finance to ensure the operational strategy is aligned and delivered.
- Review upcoming orders/ projects, and ensure all required resources (inventory, consumables, etc.) are available and operational.
- Review profitability during and after project completion
- Drive company culture - fair and transparent rewards, recognition, and consequences. Employee performance management with reviews and discipline as needed.
Qualifications:
- five to seven years in senior leadership role in distribution together with four to six years in progressively more senior operational leadership roles with multiple direct reports
- Proven experience developing and implementing plans to efficiently use inventory, labour, and equipment to meet orders, within budget and quality standards.
- Strategic thinker with demonstrated ability to visualize projects from estimation to final delivery and “sell” the vision.
- Demonstrated senior business and financial acumen - possesses a good understanding of and applies appropriate financial concepts involved in operations.
- Ideally have experience in the electrical market
- Persuasive communication skills combined with solid experience in employee relations and project management
- Experienced leading Lean management principles for continuous improvement
- Ability to build and mentor teams.
- Knowledgeable interpreting design plans
Pay: $86,859.00-$94,183.00 per year
