NRC Construction is implementing the “Platform to Decarbonize the Construction Sector at Scale” to accelerate and scale up new technologies to help transition the Canadian construction sector towards decarbonization and contribute to the emerging low-carbon economy. It will also establish new codes, standards, specifications, and guidelines to position the sector to achieve its 2050 greenhouse gas (GHG) carbon reduction targets. These investments will help spur the growth of Canada’s clean technology sector and help achieve Canada’s international commitments to reduce GHG emissions.

This position will be critical to support the research, development, and deployment of low-carbon concrete materials for climate change mitigation. These activities are supporting Government of Canada priorities for mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and adaption to the effects of climate change on the built environment.

The RO will also lead and/or participate in new and on-going work related to concrete materials and durability, climate resilience of concrete infrastructure, and concrete durability. Work in these areas may involve providing support to Federal Government departments as well as laboratory research.

Documenting results in the form of reports, research papers and conference presentations is a key part of the RO’s responsibilities. While the position is based in Ottawa, Ontario, the RO may be involved in field work elsewhere in the country.

**Education**:
PhD in Civil Engineering, or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering combined with extensive work experience in a relevant area are preferred.

An equivalent combination of a PhD or Master’s degree in a related field, combined with extensive experience with concrete materials may be considered.

**Experience**:

- Extensive experience in the analysis of concrete performance, including durability issues.
- Extensive experience with concrete durability properties and durability tests.
- Extensive experience in cement chemistry and supplementary cementitious materials.
- Extensive experience in concrete mix proportioning, laboratory testing, and technologies.
- Extensive experience in the design and analysis of laboratory tests related to concrete materials engineering; including data collection and analysis, overseeing data production, and ensuring data quality;
- Extensive experience in the documentation of research results, including writing research papers or reports and in oral presentations.
- Significant experience in project development and management and in client interactions.

**The following would be considered assets**:

- Experience with testing chemical reactions in concrete aggregates, including their prevention and mitigation.
- Significant experience of concrete field work.
- Experience in developing or refining standard test methods for concrete and concrete materials.

**Compensation**:
The intent of this hiring action is to staff this position at the **AsRO-SRO** level, which is a mid-career to senior level position with a salary range of **$105,785 **to **$148,657** annually.
