We are looking for a Technical Officer to support our Construction Research Centre. The Technical Officer would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

NRC Construction is implementing the “Platform to Decarbonize the Construction Sector at Scale” to accelerate and scale up new technologies to help transition the Canadian construction sector towards decarbonization and contribute to the emerging low-carbon economy. It will also establish new codes, standards, specifications, and guidelines to position the sector to achieve its 2050 greenhouse gas (GHG) carbon reduction targets. These investments will help spur the growth of Canada’s clean technology sector and help achieve Canada’s international commitments to reduce GHG emissions.

The CCHT full scale test house facilities are used to test and evaluate new technologies which support improvements for energy efficiency, indoor air quality, thermal comfort, and aging in place. This position within the CCHT team offers an opportunity to work as part of a highly skilled and motivated team, which is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and capability development for these impressive facilities.

The incumbent is expected to work autonomously with general guidance from management and/or project managers, and to effectively liaise with clients. **Screening Criteria**:
**Education**:
College diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Building Sciences, or other discipline related to the position.

An equivalent combination of work related experience, training, and education may also be considered.

HVAC technician certifications would be considered an asset.

**Experience**:

- Experience providing technical support for the safe operation, maintenance, and installation of residential equipment such as: furnaces, heat pumps, water heaters, appliances, HRVs, and photo-voltaic systems;
- Experience with the safe maintenance and installation of residential building components such as: windows, roofing materials, drywall, and wood framing;
- Significant experience with the safe operation of hand and power tools;
- Experience in developing work statements for contractors or other third parties, and overseeing their delivery particularly in the context of construction projects;
- Experience with project management related activities such as scheduling and providing technical guidance;
- Experience in designing, conducting, documenting, and analyzing complex experiments or test would be considered an asset.

Must be able to possess and retain the physical capabilities to perform the position which include but may not be limited to: crouching, bending, twisting, walking, climbing stairs & ladders, working at heights, working outdoors, ability to hear for the purpose of audio evaluations, and the ability to handle heavy and bulky objects.

- Ability to install and operate conventional and novel building system components, and to maintain residential buildings in good working order;
- Ability to review real-time and historical data from building systems and to identify anomalies and appropriate solutions;
- Ability to use MS Office Suite for the purposes of system documentation and reporting test results.
- Knowledge of the latest residential building and automation technologies particularly related to energy efficiency and smart home technologies;
- Ability to perform complex task planning and scheduling for project activities.

Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with the NRC's directives.

**Compensation**:
From $58,445 to $80,040 per annum.
