The mission of the Red Door Shelter is to end homelessness for each family that comes through our doors by providing a safe, temporary refuge and critical services to support them in healing, rebuilding their lives and integrating back into a community. **Position Summary**

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the overall development and maintenance of a dynamic volunteer program. The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the recruitment, screening, selection, orientation, training, placement, motivation and evaluation of volunteers. In their role, the incumbent is at the forefront of Red Door’s Volunteer Services and is accountable for promoting volunteering opportunities to the public, maintaining a positive image of the organization and the growth of our brand recognition in communities. Other responsibilities will include the development and maintenance of policies and systems to ensure effective volunteer management.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Recruitment, screening, selection, placement, training, scheduling, motivation, and evaluation of volunteers.
- Promote opportunities of volunteering to the public and brand awareness.
- Work closely with shelter management staff to determine volunteer needs.
- Computer data entry, record keeping using eTapestry software.
- Act as a primary staff resource for volunteers and coordinate all volunteer activities.
- Responsible for the continuing development of the volunteer program.
- Develop and maintain policies and systems for effective volunteer management.
- Develop volunteer position descriptions as required to meet Volunteer requirements.
- Promote the involvement of volunteers among staff.
- Respond to requests regarding volunteerism.
- Develop and execute a volunteer recruitment and retention strategy (including the development of a volunteer recognition program).
- Provide on-going support to all volunteers.
- Communicate with volunteers on a regular basis to ensure a positive, fulfilling experience for both the volunteer and the organization.
- Place and schedule volunteers according to skill sets and abilities to ensure that volunteer services are effectively delivered.
- Update database, volunteer job descriptions, volunteer policies & procedures and volunteer manual as required.
- Plan and execute an annual volunteer recognition event.
- Provide support for the annual staff holiday party and ex-residents’ holiday party.
- Work collaboratively with the Fund Raising Department and provide volunteer support to the department when needed.
- Assist supervisors in establishing and conducting regular volunteer performance reviews including exit interviews.
- Must use discretion and good judgment at all times to ensure the good reputation of the organization.
- May be required to do public appearances.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**
- Post-secondary education and Volunteer Management Certification.
- Minimum one year of working experience in a volunteer coordination capacity.
- Strong written and verbal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently.
- Must be able to work in a shelter setting with a diverse population of residents, staff and volunteers.
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
- Proven ability to supervise, motivate, train and monitor the performance of a team of volunteers.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated successful experience working effectively on a team.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work well independently with mínimal supervision.
- Ability to conduct effective presentations at volunteer fairs and other events.
- Must possess strong time management skills.
- Sound judgment with the ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
