Toronto, Canada Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre Full time

**Post-Doctoral Fellow - St. John’s Rehab Research Program [Spinal Cord Injury & Housing], Sunnybrook Research Institute (Temporary Full-Time, 3 year term)**

Although many people who sustain a spinal cord injury or dysfunction (SCI/D) require modifications to their homes, or alternatively move to an accessible dwelling (which may not be their preferred choice), there is a relative dearth of literature exploring the housing needs of this population. To address this critical gap, the aim of this mixed-methods project is to identify key housing needs and priorities in persons aging with SCI/D and to co-design a SCI/D housing decision-aid and information tool-kit to advance housing outcomes.

To better understand the housing needs post-SCI/D, and to create a tool-kit that will help people with their decision-making with a tool-kit, we are offering a three-year post-doctoral fellowship to: 1) support a qualitative study to understand the process of establishing housing and explore factors that influence housing satisfaction in people with SCI/D; 2) develop and deploy a national survey to establish the key housing needs and priorities of the SCI/D population; and 3) use the data from the qualitative study and national survey to co-design a housing Tool-Kit with people with SCI/D that aims to promote greater autonomy with optimizing their housing situations.

The post-doctoral fellow will work with Dr. Sander Hitzig and his team to help refine the scope and activities of these programs by:

- Collecting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data on housing with people with SCI/D as well as professionals (e.g., clinical staff, developers, policy-makers, etc.) to inform the development of the housing tool-kit.
- Lead the co-design process of a housing tool-kit for SCI/D;
The outcomes of this research will advance our understanding of housing post-SCI/D in Canada and will provide the necessary information on how to create an educational and decision-aid tool on optimizing housing following SCI/D.

Qualifications:

- A PhD degree in rehabilitation sciences, health policy and management, or related disciplines is required;
- PhD must be obtained within 5 years of start date;
- Research expertise/experience with mixed-methods (quantitative and qualitative) preferred.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail
- Willingness for travel within the GTA.
