The Provincial Genetics Program (PGP) was established to ensure the provision of comprehensive, coordinated, evidence-based genetic services for Ontario. In this context, genetic services include genetic testing and/or genetic counselling services for rare and inherited diseases, hereditary cancer, and tumour biomarkers. The PGP has established a number of Genetics Expert Groups, each focusing on a particular patient population, that are tasked with developing evidence-based guidance products and working with partners to ensure dissemination and uptake of new recommendations. The program also provides policy advice and recommendations through expert consultation to the Ministry of Health in funding decisions related to genetic testing provided outside of Ontario.
- Reducing health inequities is a strategic priority for Ontario Health. The Lead, Equity for the Provincial Genetics Program (PGP) portfolio of Ontario Health (OH) will play a critical role in ensuring that OH delivers genetic services that are responsive to the diverse needs and perspectives of Ontarians. The Lead will promote equity, inclusion, diversity and anti-racism as core principles across PGP initiatives.
- The purpose of this position is to lead and oversee the development, dissemination and implementation of strategies that promote equity within the PGP portfolio with particular attention to the inequities associated with genetic medicine. There is a need for ongoing consultation and collaboration with equity-deserving groups to ensure that genetic services are implemented in a culturally appropriate and respectful manner.- Project/Program/Operations execution and delivery-

- Overall:
- Provide leadership in the use of evidence to guide equitable care for genetic services-
- Provide advice to the PGP leadership team to ensure that principles of equity, inclusion, diversity and anti-racism are integrated into all aspects of PGP work-
- Establish standardized processes to ensure an equity impact assessment is completed and is used to inform all guidance products developed by the OH-PGP-
- Utilize evidence, engagement, consultation and standardized assessment tools to anticipate, evaluate and recommend plans to support implementation of new recommendations for equity deserving populations-
- Work with other OH programs, external collaborators and community organizations to build relationships with equity deserving such that genetic testing can be implemented to best support the needs and preferences of communities-
- As the main point of contact for equity-related work, use collaborative leadership to develop and support dissemination and implementation of guidance products on time and on target-
- Play a leadership role in terms of content, process, and methods in the development and implementation of equity-specific projects and initiatives and related activities across Ontario Health and externally- Analysis:
- Serve as an expert on evidence synthesis, guideline appraisal, and the analysis of different sources of information related to equity across a broad spectrum of genetics health care topics-
- Use critical appraisal tools and rigorous methods to evaluate available guidelines related to the equitable delivery of genetic testing and services-
- Conduct quantitative and/or qualitative analyses of other sources of guidance and information related to the equitable delivery of genetic testing and services-
- Work with experts and available information to identify and assess systemic barriers and challenges to health equity, and develop strategies to support resolution-
- Assess the current state of equity needs within the PGP portfolio through analysis of the current policies, procedures and processes of the PGP, available data, and survey
