**Position Description**:

- and post-test genetic counselling for patients/families with suspected rare genetic conditions. In this role, you would work alongside internationally renowned Physicians, Genetic Counsellors, Researchers and other health professionals to provide excellent family-centered care to patients from around the world.

**Here's What You¿ll Get To Do**:

- Work in a multi-faceted role with a primary focus on contributing to translational genetics research.
- Explain the study to participants, gauge interest in enrollment to the study, accompany patients through decision-making and obtain consent where appropriate
- Support other activities related to research including obtaining and maintaining REB approval, team meetings, etc.
- Provide comprehensive genetic information regarding the diagnosis, aetiology, recurrence risk and available testing options for a variety of disorders.
- Design and optimize data collection and maintain the study databases and collection tools (e.g., REDCap, PhenoTips)
- Contribute to the clinical interpretation of genetic and genomic test results.
- Provide genetic counselling to patients/families that participate in research.
- Coordinate segregation testing in family members when relevant.
- Address other genetic risks identified in the patient/family.
- Assess psychosocial issues and structure counselling session(s) accordingly.
- Assist patients/families in making decisions consistent with their beliefs, while addressing cultural diversity and ethical issues.
- Provide international leadership in genetic counselling services, research and education.
- Liaise with a variety of stakeholders including physicians, genetic counsellors, laboratory scientists, researchers, medical trainees, and others to foster collaborative relationships and coordinate multidisciplinary study activities and initiatives.
- Work with leadership team to plan, coordinate and execute multi-disciplinary research meetings.
- Educate other health care professionals on interpretation of genome-based results both at SickKids and at other institutions.
- Teaching/supervising opportunities in the University of Toronto/SickKids MSc Program in Genetic Counselling (possible).
- Participate in manuscript preparation, presentations, and project reporting.

**Here's What You¿ll Need**:

- A Master of Science in Genetic Counselling.
- Certification (or eligible for) by the Canadian Association of Genetic Counselling (CAGC) and/or the American Board of Genetic Counsellors (ABGC).
- Professional knowledge of the rapidly changing principles and practice of medical, clinical and laboratory genetics.
- Effective oral and written presentation and communication skills, including telephone and virtual/Zoom-supported counselling.
- Superior critical thinking, organizational, time management, decision-making, teaching and continuous learning skills.
- Demonstrated leadership and collaborative teamwork skills.
- Commitment to the provision of evidence-based, family-centred care.
- Highly developed computer skills and/or the ability to learn new computer programs.
- Prior experience with coordinating or otherwise supporting clinical/translational research in genetics is an asset.
- TCPS 2 and Good Clinical Practice certificates will be required (if not already certified, can be completed after hire)
- Demonstrated commitment to understanding and aiding in the pursuit of equity, diversity and inclusion objectives
