**The Position: Success Coach (full-time)**
The Success Coach will build developmental relationships and provide one to one support in identifying and addressing barriers that are preventing youth form succeeding in school. The Success Coach will collaborate with Calgary Board of Education and outside agencies to engage students and will liaise with outside agencies and community organizations to assist youth in meeting their individual needs.
**Key Duties and Responsibilities**
- Build a positive relationship with students and staff of the assigned school.
- Facilitate and strengthen school engagement for identified students.
- Assist and mentor students returning to school after a period away.
- Assist students with the identification of barriers to their success, provide support and advocacy for those students as they pursue their studies, and explore options for further education and/or career exploration.
- Assist students with short and long term goal-setting and the development of sustainable plans to achieve these goals.
- Support youth and family/natural supports in improving or creating connection and opportunities for positive interactions, strengthening relationships and connecting them to community resources.
- Provide community support to students during school breaks and occasional participation in activities outside of school hours.
- Participate in various internal and external committees as required.
- Other duties as required.
**Knowledge and Skill Expectations**
- Degree or diploma in a related field such as recreation, social work, education or a combination of relevant training and applied experience.
- 3-5 years’ experience working with vulnerable youth.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills with youth and adults.
- Knowledge of Trauma-informed care, Natural Supports Approach and Harm Reduction.
- A willingness to inform and modify practice based on cultural needs of clientele.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
- Eager to engage in professional learning opportunities and reflective practice.
- Resourceful, energetic, creative and self-directed.
- Able to work independently and within multi-disciplinary team.
- Motivated and can respond to student needs with urgency and reliability.
- Able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends and in various environments
- Clear Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search and Intervention Record Check required.
- Valid Alberta driver’s license & access to a vehicle. Ability to work occasional evening and/or weekend events.
