Collingwood Neighbourhood House (CNH) is a not-for-profit Society serving the Renfrew-Collingwood (RC) neighbourhood of East Vancouver. CNH’s mandate is to promote the well-being of the Renfrew-Collingwood community by providing leadership and working collaboratively with individuals, families, agencies and other groups to develop and support inclusive, innovative, sustainable initiatives and services that respond to the community’s social, educational, economic, health, cultural and recreational needs.
Job Overview
The Peer to Peer Program Assistant will assist in the planning, implementation and delivery of the Peer to Peer Education Program and its related initiatives for youth in the Renfrew-Collingwood community. The Peer to Peer program focuses on engaging youth in a peer to peer mentorship model focusing on holistic health and wellness promotion and education (e.g. social well-being, physical health, mental health, etc.). A primary goal of the program is to contribute to the health and wellness of youth by providing them with the information and tools needed to help them lead healthy and fulfilling lives. Peer to Peer aims to engage in this work through a social justice lens, integrating principles of anti-oppression and inclusivity into its program offerings. The Peer to Peer Program Assistant will be part of Collingwood Neighbourhood House’s Youth Services Team and will be supported and supervised by the Peer to Peer Program Coordinator.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist the Peer to Peer Program Manager to develop, plan and lead the Peer to Peer program to respond to the shifting needs and assets of youth within the community
- Plan and lead educational and skills development workshops, volunteer opportunities, program activities, and events for participants and volunteers
- Support in program related outreach, marketing and promotions
- Assist in volunteer recruitment, development, and management
- Promote youth social supports through leadership, mentorship, skills development, and community engagement
- Create and maintain a safe environment for participants and volunteers
- Create educational and promotional resources for youth
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners and youth service providers
- Support with research and conducting needs analyses of youth in the community
- Assist with program evaluations and track progress and growth
- Support with other tasks or in other program areas as needed
Skills & Qualifications
- Combination of experience and education that would support the work of this position. Preference for undergraduate studies in a related field such as education, social work, social sciences, or health sciences/promotion.
- At least two years of experience leading programs with pre-teens and youth
- Demonstrated experience and ability in mentoring youth, developing youth leadership initiatives, and partnering with community-based youth programs
- Demonstrated experience developing volunteer training curriculum and facilitating workshops for youth
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of health promotion, social justice, and anti-oppression principles
- Understanding and awareness of youth issues and needs within the community
- Research, project development, organizational, leadership, and communication skills
- Able to adapt to a variety of work environments
- Satisfactory completion of a clear Criminal Record Search
- Fully vaccinated for COVID-19
- Emergency First Aid and CPR-C Certification
Assets
- Positive, fun and engaging attitude
- Training in High Five or other children and youth program delivery models
- Facilitation, public speaking, and interactive presentation skills
- Design/marketing experience or skills
Job Details
**Salary**: $21.91/hr
Schedule: 12 hours per week, Monday - Friday, some evenings & weekends
Location: Collingwood Neighbourhood House, Local Schools, Remote Work
Start Date: asap in November, 2024.
This is a unionized position covered by a Collective Agreement with CUPE Local 1936
