The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is looking for **Coordinator, GIS** to join the nation’s leading not-for-profit, private land conservation organization, working to protect our most important natural areas and the plants and animals they sustain.

**Overview**
A highly organized individual is required to manage, compile, analyse and display both spatial and tabular data to assist the Nature Conservancy of Canada’s (NCC) Ontario sub regional programs, under supervision of the Director of Science and Stewardship, and working with the Ontario GIS team. This individual will use geographic information systems (GIS), and other software to produce multi-scale maps, create databases, compile and align datasets, generate metadata, and analyze and present data in support of NCC administrative, conservation planning, securement, stewardship and development projects.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Coordinate GIS tasks via the GIS request system, liaising with the other Coordinator, GIS, and the Assistant, GIS;
- Manage and set regional standards for NCC-Ontario spatial data, ensuring quality control of GIS and related database and spreadsheet files, including the Land Information System and Daisy;
- Lead the GIS aspects of landscape scale special projects, including generating map products and associated statistics for invasive species control, restoration and other large projects often beyond NCC fee-simple projects;
- Compile and manage NCC Ontario Region’s tabular and spatial datasets; implement data backup procedures, track data holdings, and update and document (with metadata) datasets as needed, and integrate these with any NCC-National cloud-based or similar systems as these develop;
- Support program staff in GIS, data management, and field data collection support needs, and provide technical support for data management and GIS software/hardware;
- Produce standardised maps and generate metrics to support NCC’s Natural Area and Property-level management planning; and other output products associated with administrative, securement, stewardship and development projects, including GIS support for the Conservation Land Tax Incentive Program dividing these tasks among Ontario GIS staff in order to meet deadlines;
- Manage NCC-Ontario’s GIS software (ArcGIS) and peripheral hardware;
- Collaborate with NCC-National and US partners on assembling and analyzing national and bi-national data sets;
- Compile, digitize, analyze, manage, interpret and display biological and GIS data for NCC partners;
- Compile relevant data for the review of prospective land protection projects;
- Lead in acquiring, compiling, aligning, and verifying third party datasets;
- Supervise GIS partnership projects with interns and colleges/ universities, and;
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Science and Stewardship, the Director of Conservation or the Regional Vice President.
**Skills and Aptitudes**:
- Must be a university graduate in geomatics, biology/ecology or geography with significant course work in geographic information systems (GIS) or have a certificate in GIS from an accredited college, and a minimum of three years’ work experience;
- Knowledge of landscape ecology, including species at risk, invasive species, and other conservation-related topics and associated natural resource data;
- At least three years of experience with ESRI GIS software (ArcGIS Pro or ArcMap), as well as various database, spreadsheet and graphics software;
- Experience with ArcGIS Online, including publishing services, creating online mapping products (storymaps, dashboards, web apps), and using integrated products such as Survey123 or Field Maps;
- Experience with ESRI Field Maps (or Collector) and creating field data collection projects for field teams;
- Knowledge and demonstrated proficiency of GIS specific programming languages such as Arcade, Python and the Arcpy library, SQL;
- Ability to create, update, manipulate, analyze, and document spatial and non-spatial data;
- Solid understanding of methods for communicating spatial data and effective map messaging;
- Demonstrated ability to work independently (with attention to detail and accuracy), seek assistance and input as required, and to work on interdisciplinary teams;
- Must have the ability to solve problems using the available resources;
