Regulatory Committee - Public Members

The College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) is a health profession regulatory college. It has been delegated the authority under the _Health Professions Act_ (HPA) to govern Alberta’s registered nurses, nurse practitioners, certified graduate nurses, graduate nurses and graduate nurse practitioners.

The HPA places significant responsibilities on all regulatory colleges, including the CRNA, to protect the public and hold registrants accountable for the care they provide. The CRNA’s regulatory responsibilities include:

- Approving education programs for entry into the profession
- Setting registration and registration renewal requirements
- Setting, maintaining and enforcing practice, conduct and ethical standards for the care registrants provide
- Setting continuing competence requirements for registrants to maintain competency in their practice over time
- Receiving, investigating and addressing complaints
- Holding registrants accountable for their practice and behaviour
- Maintaining a public register

The College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) is seeking members of the public to fill positions on the following regulatory committees:

- Competence Committee
- Registration Committee
- Registration Review Committee

**Expectations**:

- Committee members are expected to follow governance policies and their respective committee charter, including upholding confidentiality at all times, and ensuring they have no conflicts of interest
- The regulatory committees meet on an as needed basis, and members are expected to prepare for and participate in meetings. Remuneration is on a per diem rate of $205 for less than four (4) hours and $375 for equal to or over four (4) hours spent.

**Appointment Term**

Term of appointment on each of these regulatory committees is three (3) years, commencing Oct. 1, 2024, and expiring Sept. 30, 2027.

**2024 Application Process Timeline**
- January 15 - Recruitment opens
- February 2 -Deadline for submission of the expression of interest
- March 11-April 12 -Applicant interviews occur
- April 15-26 -Reference checks occur
- April 29-May 14 - Recommendations are finalized
- June 13-14 -Council considers recommendations for appointment
- July-August
- Orientation and onboarding begins
- October 1 **-**Terms of appointment for newly appointed public members appointed to Regulatory Committees begin
