**Objective of Position**
The Academic and Onboarding Coordinator, Nursing Professional Practice, plays an integral role in promoting, building and maintain relations with students and academic affiliates, as well assisting in the onboarding process of newly hired nurses through the professional practice lens.
Reporting to the Director of Nursing - Professional Practice, the incumbent coordinates all activities to achieve the timely and appropriate placement and monitoring of nursing student learners (practicum, internships, etc ), as well supports the onboarding of newly hired nurses, including overview of orientation, mandatory education and teaching assigned modules of nursing theory.

**_ Academics_**
Coordinates ROHCG (ROMHC and BMHC) student placement program:
- Acts as organization’s primary program contact with internal and external stakeholders (affiliated and prospective academic institutions);
- Works alongside program managers to place over 300 students annually;
- Liaises with external faculty and coordinators to ensure the ROHCG program requirements and pre-requisites are met;
- Liaises with site multidisciplinary departments as required (eg: Learning and Development);
- Reviews teaching affiliation agreements and agency renewal documents prior to placements;
- Maintains accurate program records using HSPnet software;
- Develops and presents student general orientation;
- Ensures preceptors have access to preceptor workbook and updated student placement guidelines;
- Collects and tracks all mandatory placement paperwork (workplace hazards checklist, privacy and confidentiality agreement, etc.) Conducts regular student program reviews and provides recommendations for improvement.
- Supports department at job fairs;
**_ Onboarding_**
Assists with the onboarding process of newly hired nurses (ROMHC and BMHC):
- Communicates directly with new hires to organize corporate orientation and nursing orientation (both sites);
- Collaborates with Nurse Scholars to ensure new incumbents are onboarded to the Nurse Scholar program;
- Supports Nurse Scholars in the implementation of the Nurse Scholar program;
- Updates nursing theory modules to reflect best practice and organizational policy and procedure;
- Collects and tracks all mandatory orientation paperwork (workplace hazards checklist, privacy and confidentiality agreement, etc.)
- Ensures buddy shift checklist is completed and signed by new hires and manager;
- Collaborates with nursing professional practice team in the annual nursing orientation calendar;
- Collaborates with organization programs to ensure required nursing competencies are reflected in education;
- Assists in the development of training materials - handouts, manuals, PowerPoint presentations;
- Collates and reviews organizational training compliance data and develops custom reports for programs, departments, committees, annual quality reporting, health and safety audits;
- In collaboration with the Director and stakeholders, develops a program evaluation process for student placements and tracks, trends and reports results on a regular basis;
- Develops training schedules for organization wide projects - such as EHR implementation, safe medication practices, IPAC, nursing practice as directed by the College of Nurses of Ontario;
- Participates in hospital-wide projects, teams and committees, as assigned.
- Assists Professional Practice colleagues with education for unit nursing staff;
- Backfill for Professional Practice Colleagues as required;
- Other duties as assigned by Director;
- Performs all work at all times in compliance with all hospital policies and procedures and legislation (eg: Mental Health Act, Fixing Long-Term Care Act).
- Works in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of The Royal.
