The Physician Assistant (PA) is a unregulated health care provider who works under the supervision of a registered physician. The PA supports the physician as the principle medical-decision maker and the supervising physician is responsible for the direction of the PAs' activities. Under the supervision of a physician, PAs meet the needs of the patients by treating immediate illness, guiding patients through recovery, advising them on healthier choices, and educating them on disease prevention.

**Main Responsibilities**
- conducting patient interviews
- taking patient histories
- completing physical examinations
- performing selected diagnostic and therapeutic interventions
- ordering and interpreting patient laboratory and radiological results
- counselling on preventive health care
- other task within the supervising physician's scope of practice that the physician deems the PA qualified to complete

**Key Qualifications and Skills**
- Graduate of an accredited physician assistant education program or equivalent
- Registered with the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants
- Certified by the Physician Assistant Certification Council of Canada
- Clinical and leadership experience an asset
- Strong computer, communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to think critically and solve problems within scope of practice
- A team player with the ability to develop and maintain partnerships with multiple, diverse stakeholders
- Flexible, collaborative, organized, self-directed and takes initiative
