**Role Overview**
Cota’s Acquired Brain Injury Adult Day Services (ABI ADS) program offers supportive and creative group environments for people to engage in meaningful activities, explore strengths and develop new/diverse skills. ABI Adult Day Services is designed to act as a stepping stone to personal recovery and community inclusion. As such, we encourage participants to define their goals and help shape activities to meet those goals.
**About the Team**
We require a Facilitator to work as a team member of our Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Adult Day Services located in Scarborough. Facilitators collaboratively support daily groups that emphasize opportunities to engage Service Users.
Cota’s ABI Adult Day Service provides support to adults with a diagnosed Acquired Brain Injury who are looking to engage in meaningful social interactions, reintegrate within the community, and reduce isolation; we also strive to develop educational material relevant to group and individual interests. We place a great deal of care in developing respectful and collaborative relationships with the people we support.
Using a recovery-based approach, ABI ADS Facilitators work in partnership with service users in support of their recovery goals. It is our intent to provide support in a manner which promotes hope, growth, choice and personal recovery. We help service users select programs which best suits their interests, needs and abilities. The ABI ADS Facilitator provides support, encouragement, counselling, skill development, and feedback to enable service users to realize their goals and to facilitate problem solving.
**Primary Responsibilities**:
- Support daily light lunch preparation.
- Support the flow of referrals: review new referrals and support the intake process.
- Administrative tasks: completion of consent forms, Risk assessments.
- Develop materials and lesson plans.
- Build a respectful and collaborative working relationships with colleagues and service users.
- Foster a sense of group cooperation and cohesiveness.
- Maintain a positive group dynamic.
- Encourage peer support and assistance within the groups.
- Provide information and link individuals to appropriate professional/clinical services if they require services that we do not provide.
- Engage with external partners.
- Build and/or maintain self-worth and self-confidence.
- Establish new social connections and skills.
- Increase personal independence and natural support networks.
- Manage challenging behaviours.
- A minimum of a Community College Diploma in a field relevant to the target population. Higher level post-secondary education will be considered an asset.
- A minimum of 2 years of direct or transferable experience suitable to working effectively with the relevant target population.
- Knowledge of community resources relevant to the target population being served and/or demonstrated ability to search for applicable resources/information.
- Ability to design and implement group activities and facilitate group meetings.
- Good crisis management and dispute resolution skills.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Basic computer literacy (Word, E-mail, Internet).
- Experience working with persons living with acquired brain injury is preferred.
- Experience working with marginalized people is preferred.
**Other Conditions and Working Requirements**:
- Provides field placement opportunities for students in the field of health care.
- Social services at participating colleges and universities.
