**Role**:
Reporting to the Wildfire Mitigation Manager, the Provincial Wildfire Management Specialist is instrumental in developing and implementing provincial standards, guidelines, and strategic direction intended on supporting risk-based wildfire management approaches to achieve landscape-level forest and land management objectives. As the Specialist, you incorporate wildfire risk assessments with forest management, land management and regional land use planning processes within the department.

As the Provincial Wildfire Management Specialist, you will act as a lead with respect to wildfire management planning, leading innovative changes, and managing landscape level wildfire risks within provincial planning initiatives. With a sound knowledge of the development of provincial legislation, regulation, and policy, you build the connection to wildfire management planning.

Calling on your advanced understanding of wildfire behaviour, you are instrumental in supporting wildfire management planning, hazardous fuel reduction, and integrated landscape management. Extending leadership to cross-governmental teams and national collaborative initiatives, you are adept in building collaborative environments to spearhead initiatives focused on delivering risk-based frameworks. Referencing a magnitude of communication methods, such as establishing working groups delivering presentations, you connect with stakeholder to ensure their understanding on technical guidelines, data sets, and scientific advancements.

**Qualifications**:
The minimum requirements for this role are a university degree plus six (6) years related experience.

Directly related education and or experience is considered on a one-for-one basis, such as:

- A two-year diploma supplemented by eight (8) years of related experiences

Related disciplines include forestry, natural resources, or environmental sciences with an emphasis on natural disturbance, forest succession, and resource management.

Additional Requirements:

- A valid a Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent
- Experience in articulating technical and scientific data to ensure understanding and provide theoretically sound advice for strategic planning initiatives
- Project management experience
- Experience analyzing and managing large data sets, completing fire and landscape analysis, developing fire growth model reports, and assessing GIS, statistical software, and similar computer programming
