**Role**:
If it’s time to turn up the heat on your career, consider joining our team as an Air Attack Officer & Heavy Equipment Specialist in Edmonton.

Report to the Provincial Wildfire Operations Coordinator this position is accountable for the delivery and Coordination of the Fireline and Mobile Equipment (Heavy Equipment) program for the province. This will include contract coordination to support the Forest Areas.

This position will also be an active participant in the provincial Air Attack Officer program as well as the Helicopter Coordinator (HLCO) program. You will play a vital role in controlling airspace on wildfires which will include directing air tankers and helicopters for maximum effect while deployed on a wildfire and being responsible for directing air traffic to reduce the risk of aircraft incidents.

Furthermore, you will receive he opportunity to function as a Provincial Duty Officer/Aircraft Coordinator assisting in pre-suppression and suppression activities, including aviation. This position may also participate on the Incident Management Teams to contain and suppress wildfires.

**Qualifications**:
The minimum requirements for this role are a two year diploma in Forestry or a related Natural Resource Management field plus four (4) years of related experience in fire detection, preparedness, suppression, and or control and command activities is required.

Equivalencies: Directly related experience or education is considered on a one-for-one basis, such as:

- A four-year degree plus two (2) years of related experience

Additional requirements include:

- Knowledge of and or experience with fuel types, flight patterns and procedures, weather conditions and aerial photo interpretation, forest ecology and topography, fire behaviour and fire fighting techniques

Assets include:

- Supervisory or leadership experience
- Air Attack Officer training and or certification
- Helicopter Coordinator training and or certification
- Eligibility for registration with the Association of Alberta Forest Management Professionals
- Knowledge of Provincial legislation, including the Forest and Prairie Protection Act, Forests Act and Timber Management Regulations, Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, Regulated Forest Management Profession Act and Public Lands Administration Regulation

**Salary**:
$2,568.72 to $3,304.72 biweekly ($67,043 to $86,253/year)

**Terms of Employment**:

- This position is a permanent, full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday.
- The incumbent may be requested to work overtime, evenings and weekends due to the emergency nature of wildfires.
- This position requires travel throughout the province. **Applicants must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s license**
