Support Staff Full-time Replacement Position (2 Vacancies)

(First consideration for Support Staff and Academic positions will be given to internal applicants in accordance with the respective Collective Agreements)

**Responsibilities**:

- Provide technical guidance and support to academic users and systems
- Review existing systems for fit for purpose and scalability; Under the guidance of senior IT staff, research and develop proposals for the improvement or reengineering of existing processes and systems
- Lead project management activities in the selection, migration and testing of new academic focused systems and processes resulting in flexible and scalable solutions; Provide status updates and risk mitigation strategies to senior IT staff
- Maintain organizational unit (OU) hierarchies, groups, appropriate permissions and authentication systems in an enterprise Active Directory environment (ADFS, Azure AD)
- Execute scheduled maintenance and system patching ensuring continuous secure and stable operations (System Centre, WSUS)
- Act as liaison to external software suppliers for problem resolution (Windows Server, Linux, MacOS)
- Manage, maintain, and support a VDI environment
- Assist with design, build, and support of virtualized computing environments (VMware and Hyper-V)
- Provide technical assistance to Senior IT staff, Programmer Analysts, and end-users regarding computer operating systems and developing specialized routines to aid in the development, operation, automation and integration of different administrative systems
- Monitor, implement, and maintain network-wide system backup and recovery routines to ensure integrity of Conestoga’s Student Information and Financial Systems, Windows and Linux servers
- Assist Senior Technical staff with database administration of the College Financial System, Student Information System, Scheduling System and Academic Teaching environments (MS SQL, SharePoint)
- Maintain proper data stewardship with sensitive and critical data during daily work
- Monitor operations for potential data leakage, account/systems compromise or vulnerabilities escalating as required
- Adhere to all security best practices for operational support and privileged access rights
- Coordinate with internal staff, vendors, partners and external resources in the resolution of various system or software anomalies
- Update documentation and web-resources regularly to ensure accurate system and integration representation
- Maintain and provide guidance related to the creation of Knowledge Base Articles (KBA) to support Service Delivery processes
- Assist in corrective measures during network integrity breach events
- Ability to successfully gather information, and support organizational solutions and goals
- Provide exceptional customer service in response to all requests made
- Consistently demonstrate sound judgement and logical decision making
- Ability to foster and maintain trust-based business relationships

Qualifications:

- Three-year Diploma in Computer Science/Engineering, Electronics Technology, Computer Programmer Analyst, Network Technician/Analyst, Systems Administration/Management or Information Technology related program
- Successful completion of Microsoft Server/Systems Certification required
- Minimum five years of practical experience in an IT environment including experience administering Microsoft server operating systems
- Minimum one-year of experience administering Linux operating systems required
- Cloud Certification is considered an asset
- Well-developed analytical problem-solving and decision-making skills to identify problems, determine possible solutions, and select the appropriate action
- Good planning and organizational skills to establish priorities
- Able to adjust priorities to meet deadlines
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills to be able to present high-level technical information to a non-technical audience
- Ability to think logically and act quickly under stressful conditions is essential
- Excellent knowledge of data communication concepts and protocols (i.e. TCP/UDP/IP)
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development to stay current with technology
- Well accustomed to producing logical and concise documentation for use as knowledge base content and training material
- Leadership ability to provide guidance to part time student workers
