Summary of the Role
This role is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of automated or computerized control systems and auxiliary equipment such as boilers, pumps, compressors, etc. and assisting the facility to meet production targets by maintaining high standards of preventative maintenance and timely repair of production machinery. A significant portion of this role requires production machinery maintenance. This position reports to the Plant Manager.
Responsibilities
- Must maintain 100% commitment to safety policies and procedures
- Manage the operation of automated or computerized control systems, and auxiliary equipment such as boilers, pumps, compressors, pollution control devices and other equipment for the building, industrial plants
- Organize and ensure the safe start up and shut down of power plant equipment, control switching operations, regulate boiler chemical levels; and operate process autoclaves
- Oversee and continuously improve the preventative maintenance and trouble shoot on all equipment and facilities
- Monitor and inspect plant equipment, switches, valves, gauges, alarms, meters and other instruments to measure temperature, pressure and fuel flow, to detect leaks or other equipment malfunctions and to ensure plant equipment is operating at maximum efficiency
- Analyze and record instrument readings and equipment malfunctions for the purposes of improving safety, quality, and productivity
- Troubleshoot and perform corrective action and repairs to prevent equipment or system failure
- Organize and oversee the cleaning and lubrication of pumps and compressors and, when required, perform other routine equipment maintenance duties using appropriate lubricants and hand, power and precision tools.
- Maintain a daily log of operation, maintenance and safety activities, and write reports on plant operation
- Develop, deploy, and improve maintenance and safety procedures.
- Monitor and visually inspect station instruments, meters and alarms to ensure transmission voltages and line loadings are within prescribed limits and to detect equipment failure, line disturbances and outages
- Issue work to mechanical maintenance and electrical personnel
- Ensure preventative maintenance schedules are followed on all production mechanical machinery and complete repairs as necessary
- Complete and maintain station records, logs and reports.
- Organize required inspections and certifications as per government regulations and/or plant directives
- Continuously investigate ways to improve the compliance and use of our CMMS (“Fiix”)
- Manage the maintenance spend for daily and project-related activities.
Qualifications / Experience
- Minimum 2 years in a Maintenance Leadership capacity (Manager, Supervisor, Team Leader, etc.)
- A valid (minimum) 3rd or 4th class Power Engineering certificate preferred
- Experience overseeing the operation of plant boilers, air compressors, steam condensers, air dryers, fan pumps, water filtration/supply/discharge systems.
- Experience operating in a CMMS environment
- Experience with lean manufacturing methodologies
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Self-starter with an ability to work with limited supervision
- Excellent sense of urgency, work ethic and attendance record
- Millwright experience is highly desirable.
- Able to sit, walk, stand for extended periods of time
- Able to work extended hours (if needed)
- Able to work day or night shifts
- Lift up to 50lbs
