Overview

The Technical Services Manager (TSM) will be responsible for the management of a team involved in the planning of a project through review of the project scope documents, design, optimization, and prefabrication. Primary areas of work include Industrial, Commercial, Institutional and Mid to High Rise Residential.

The Technical Services Manager (TSM) is a working manager role and will direct team members to develop the necessary drawings suitable for field coordination and fabrication. The TSM will manage the design team and provide support to the Estimating team on design-build projects.

The Technical Services Manager (TSM) will have overall responsibility for the internal design process, fabrication process and will provide overall direction to their team. The TSM will work with MML’s Productivity Leader to incorporate new ideas, methods, and value assessments into the overall work processes. The TSM will inspire personnel to achieve the departments objectives including managing the growth of the department while developing external clients for the product and services this team generates.

The Technical Services Manager (TSM) will be responsible for managing staffing and material costs within the department, provide regular updates and reporting to the VP Operations and the Senior Management Team (SMT)

**Responsibilities**:
Develop and ensure adherence to work processes by all team members.
Develop forecasting and scheduling tools
Develop a continuous improvement process aligned to ISO requirements (supported by management)
Develop and execute a communication process for Project Managers, Field Managers, Project Coordinators, and the Productivity Leader
Research and recommend necessary tools (software, equipment) to improve productivity
Develop and expand internal surveying capabilities.
Develop and expand third-party fabrication support network
Develops or supports others in developing clear and concise text (wording) associated with RFI’s
Reviews and understands architectural, structural, civil, electrical, and mechanical drawings and specifications
Develop standard specifications packages that utilizes best practices in the industry (i.e., pro press, mega press, ss piping on domestic water, etc), that can be used in the absence of clear client specifications
Manages the day-to-day activities of the team
Identifies key pre-fabrication and modularization scope for each project, coordination of drawings from project reviews and communications to the team
Provide management and technical support to team members
Work with other departments on key initiatives
Performs site visits to fully understand deliverables
Assess field conditions and take field Measurements when necessary to support the team’s work
Assists the Productivity Leader in coordinating work with suppliers, while providing technical support
Attends project meetings and management meetings
Occasional travel to job sites may be required, with reimbursement as per MML policies for expense reimbursement.
**Requirements**:
Minimum of 5-8 years experience in the mechanical design/construction field with demonstrated ability to manage a technical team of mechanical design engineers, project coordinators etc.
Diploma or University Degree in engineering, construction, building science or related field
Excellent leader that develops a good working atmosphere based on communication and accountability
Significant experience in mechanical building systems
Good knowledge of building mechanical systems for commercial, institutional, and industrial (ICI) projects
Excellent knowledge of piping materials, joining methods, welding symbols, gasket materials, etc.
Mechanical detailing experience suitable for fabrication would be an asset
Able to manage priorities, provide forecasts and schedules for the department
Ability to convincingly speak at a technical level with project engineers and general contractors
Self-starter with good initiative
