Edmonton, Canada Alberta Hotel & Lodging Association Full time

**Who are you?**

You are a skilled health and safety professional, looking for a progressive, mission focused organization where you can make a difference for an entire industry.
You want a challenging and engaging role where you can use your skills to make a big impact on hundreds of businesses by delivering content and supporting our role as the official health and safety association for hotels & conference centres all over Alberta.

**Who are we?**

We are the Alberta Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA), an Edmonton-based not-for-profit, membership-based organization, and funded safety association for Workers Compensation
Board (WCB) Industry Code 87503. Our purpose is to help Alberta hotels prosper. Our advocacy work protects and promotes the interests of our members with regards to legislation, policy, and regulations that affect Alberta’s tourism and hospitality industry. Our cost savings programs and services provide added value to members and improve the quality of hotel operations. Our safety programming provides relevant and up to date training and resources for the industry as a whole.

**Health and Safety Specialist**

**Practically speaking, you will**:

- Update and manage health and safety content for hoteliers, including sourcing content for our website, blogs, and SHIFT newsletter.
- Be the AHLA’s liaison with WCB, OHS, and other government bodies dealing with safety legislation.
- Develop, schedule, and execute health and safety training through the AHLA’s Learning Management System (LMS).
- Understand and translate safety legislation into content and resources that is easily understood and acted on by hotels.
- Ensure the delivery of AHLA’s safety programs and resources to safety subscribers
- Act as the AHLA representative on health and safety industry panels and committees
- Collaborate with Director of Member Services to develop and execute annual business plan and budget
- Manage relationships with key accounts and stakeholders to gain insights on program offerings and opportunities
- Track important safety data from our programs offerings and coordinate with management to prepare reporting packages for the leadership team and Board of Directors
- Schedule and coordinate safety topics and guest speakers for our Virtual Education Series
- Evaluate industry safety data and look for emerging trends to stay ahead of the curve and better educate safety subscribers on safety in the workplace

You are forward thinking, great communicator, and work collaboratively with staff, members, and stakeholders. As a small team, we’re all hands-on-deck, meaning there will be plenty of learning opportunities, variety, and a chance to evolve within your role.

You have industry experience, and while strong health and safety experience is required for this role, what’s equally important is who you are. You’ll be a great fit for this role if you are:

- **A problem-solver** - You’re proactive, can anticipate problems or opportunities before they arise, bring ideas forward, and are interested in finding better ways of working. You have an analytical mind and enjoy solving complex problems.
- **Accountable** - You provide quality and timely support to members and safety subscribers. You stay abreast of trends, legislation, and policy that impacts hotels.
- **Organized **- You know how to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines effectively.
- **Motivated **- You are fully engaged to get the best results.

This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic, mission-driven organization making a real difference. If you’re ready to embrace your next challenge with us, then keep reading

**Working with the AHLA**
We’re a close-knit, collaborative group of people committed to providing the best service and value to our members. Some of our team members have been with us for 5,10, and even 20 years, which we think says a lot.

All of us embrace our 5 Core Values:
1. We live with **Integrity** - We choose to do the right thing, even when it’s hard.
2. We take pride in Serving - **Service** is an attitude. It’s about doing your best, in whatever job you’ve been given to do.
3. We embrace **Challenge** - If you prefer a job that is familiar with repetitive tasks and little disruption, then working at the AHLA is probably not for you.
4. We are Stewards - Anything less than taking full responsibility for the trust we’ve been given, does not reflect our value of **Stewardship**.
5. We have **Fun **- If you want to work for us, bring your passion and enthusiasm, and prepare to have some fun

In 2018, the AHLA implemented the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) to help us better execute on our vision and instilling clear focus, discipline and accountability throughout our organization. The EOS tools help our team work with greater clarity and consistently achieve better results.

This is currently a 1.0 FTE position, covering a one-year Mat leave. We are located in the Ellwood district of
