The Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) seeks a Communications Manager to lead communications and events that connect the organization’s research programs with policy makers globally. Internally, the position plays a central role in coordinating the delivery of broader Public Affairs activities by collaborating closely with counterparts on the Research and Program Management teams.

The Communications Manageris anexperienced communications professional with a significant track record developing integrated communications strategies, strong familiarity with event logistics, impeccable organizational and program management skills, and proven leadership abilities. The position supervises four staff and reports to the Director of Public Affairs.

**Duties and Responsibilities**

Communications Leadership:

- Develop and execute integrated communications strategies and plans that amplify CIGI research and analysis with target audiences
- Manage the tactical delivery of communications activities including, but not limited to, media relations, digital marketing, social media and event logistics
- Support other core organizational activities such as internal communications and community relations
- Supervise the day-to-day activities of staff and promote a high level of performance and continuous improvement via mentorship, and the tracking and analysis of outputs via KPIs

Events Management:

- Overseethe end-to-end process of event planning and execution, including scheduling, registration, budgeting, program management, food and beverage, audio-visual, on-site and virtual event execution, and relationship management
- Manage the delivery of venue rentals to third parties at the CIGI Campus
- Supervise events staff by advising, mentoring, and setting priorities
- Cultivate key, local community relationships

Program Coordination:

- Build relationships with Research and Executive staff, understand their needs, assess and advise on the best ways to achieve their objectives
- Act as a liaison to staff leading research programs, helping to coordinate a variety of Public Affairs department services appropriate to the task
- Support the strategic management of the organization by participating in weekly and long-term planning to proactively identify opportunities and mitigate potential issues
- Other duties as assigned by the Public Affairs Director

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**
- Expertise in developing integrated marketing communication strategies and effective corporate branding initiatives
- Proven skill in setting earned media strategies, creating media plans and securing positive press with tier one media at a national and international level
- Understanding of social media strategies across various channels, including social calendars, copy writing and paid ad campaigns
- Ability to assess and evaluate internal event opportunities as they arise and offer guidance to enhance event impact
- Knowledge of both virtual and live event best practices, including event platforms, audio-visual production and presentation/digital creative
- Effective project and time management; the ability to proactively plan, prioritize and meet strict and competing deadlines, for multiple projects, in a fast-paced environment
- Tactful when managing competing priorities and setting expectations
- Leadership skills with the ability to foster a positive, open and collaborative work environment
- Strong interpersonal skills with a global mindset, or ability to connect with people from other cultures, languages, and contexts
- Aptitude to excel under pressure, make decisions and solve problems
- Facility setting and monitoring budgets
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion

**Qualifications**
- Post‐secondary degree or diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Digital Marketing/Marketing, Journalism, or equivalent
- Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive experience in the field of communications
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience managing a team to proven results
- Knowledge of technology and digital governance issues is considered an asset
- Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings and weekends as necessary
