**What can I expect to do in this role?**: In this role, you will:

- plan and conduct a comprehensive research program addressing land use and natural disturbance effects on aquatic species and their habitats;
- arrange cooperative projects with other groups to enhance data collection quality and efficiency;
- manage collected data using databases, perform detailed synthesis and statistical analysis of data using state-of-the-art utilities (e.g GIS, R);
- create computer-based assessment models and diagnostic tools;
- prepare data summaries, technical reports, and manuscripts for publication;
- support MNR's mandate by providing scientific expertise to support natural resource management.

**How do I qualify?**:
**Technical expertise**:

- You have advanced knowledge of the theories, principles and practices of aquatic ecology including field sampling techniques and the use of scientific equipment for data collection.
- You have a high level of competence in the study of aquatic ecosystems, especially with regard to the protection and management of aquatic species and habitats.

**Computer proficiency**:
**Project Management**:

- You have a demonstrated ability to initiate and expedite projects, establish project priorities, meet project objectives, and adapt to changing priorities and resource availability.
- You have the ability to provide leadership to staff during field and laboratory work, including providing technical and safety training and establishing work schedules.

**Analytical skills**:

- You have experience conducting reviewing scientific literature, analyzing, and synthesizing large data sets and reporting results in primary scientific journals.
- You have attention to detail, to ensure biologically and statistically sound data gathering and high-standard laboratory analysis.
- You can design improved sampling and data collection methodologies and incorporate state-of -the-art tools and techniques.

**Communication and interpersonal skills**:

- You have strong oral and written communication skills to liaise with scientists from government, universities, and the private sector, and to communicate research findings to various audiences.
- You are experienced in collaborating and arranging cooperative projects with other groups to enhance data collection quality and efficiency.
