**Position Summary**:
Reporting to the Manager, Operations and International Student Success, the International Immigration Student Specialist advises international students (including their family and dependents), refugee claimants and protected persons on Canadian immigration matters, including entry to Canada, study permits, work permits, U.S. visas, taxation and related government regulations. The incumbent provides counsel on the interpretation of the Canadian immigration regulations and updates to guide academic, recruitment and service areas on policies / decisions affecting international students.

**Responsibilities**:
**Immigration Matters**:

- Oversees and advises on all international students’ (including their family and dependents), refugee claimants’ and protected persons’ immigration-related activities on campus and virtually.
- Helps international students (including their family and dependents) address complex and multi-faceted immigration matters and academic matters affecting their immigration status.
- Interprets changes and updates on Canadian immigration regulations and policies and advises academic and service areas.
- Designs and conducts workshops and information sessions on immigration matters to students, support staff, and faculty members.
- Anticipates and identifies set-backs that may affect international students’ status or eligibility to qualify for future permits/visas.

**Student Support**:

- Works with various College committees or departments to assess international students’ ability to succeed academically and recommends appropriate retention strategies.
- Develops a variety of activities for newly arrived international students.
- Advises international students on issues as they arise and directs them to the appropriate academic or service areas when issues expand beyond the role’s expertise.
- Advises prospective international students and program changers on the College’s academic programs that align with their career interests and immigration objectives.

**Departmental Activities**:

- Participates in orientation activities for new students, open houses and convocations.
- Provides information to students and other relevant parties on international health insurance, student activities, student housing, and other matters.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**:

- A minimum of a completed two (2) year diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in social or political sciences, law, education, adult education, business administration or a closely related field. If education is in a related field, please state how it is relevant.
- Must be an active license holder in good standing with the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC) and have a license to practice either as a Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA) or a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC).

**Experience**:

- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience providing support and advising to international students, preferably in an educational institution.
- Experience coaching international students to build success strategies.
- Experience working in a multicultural environment and with individuals from varying backgrounds.
- Experience working with databases and student information systems (SIS).

**Skills**:

- Thorough knowledge of Canadian immigration legislation, policies, regulations and pathways as they relate to international students, their family and dependents.
- Knowledge in designing and delivering educational workshops, with strong presentation skills and excellent written and verbal communication.
- Knowledge of research methodologies.
- Self-starter with strong organization, problem-solving and analysis skills in order to make decisions under mínimal supervision.
- Innovative mindset, with an interest in continuous process improvement.

A combination of relevant experience and education may be considered as equivalent to the above requirements in the event that there are no internal applicants that meet the qualifications as posted. Equivalency will be assessed by the talent acquisition team.
