Context:
The Office for Sexual Violence Response, Support and Education (OSVRSE) plays a critical role in fulfilling the University's obligations under P22.1- An Act to prevent and fight sexual violence in higher education institutions and implementing McGill's Policy against Sexual Violence (PASV). OSVRSE holds two main mandates: 1) to establish and coordinate processes for supporting survivors who make disclosures, and 2) to establish and coordinate education initiatives that seek to raise awareness about and prevent sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) on McGill campuses. OSVRSE’s work serves to uphold McGill University’s commitment to strive towards an equitable environment in which all members of the university community are respected, safe, and free from violence.

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Director (OSVRSE), the incumbent provides direct trauma-informed support and counseling to individuals in the University community, including students, staff, and faculty, who have been impacted by sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).

Primary Responsibilities:
1. Manages intakes and conducts assessments of individual cases. Creates collaborative intervention plans with individuals (student, staff, faculty) reaching out to OSVRSE for support services due to the impacts of SGBV.

2. Provides crisis interventions, safety planning, and trauma-informed counseling to individuals who have experienced SGBV. Recognizes and accounts for intersectional identities and experiences, as well as the disproportionate effect of sexual violence on women, gender minorities, and persons who are racialized, Indigenous, and/or disabled.

3. Provides ongoing case management that considers the person’s emotional and psychological needs, safety needs, current academic or workplace barriers, and/or reporting options.

4. Coordinates requests for accommodations and safety measures on McGill campuses, referrals and accompaniment to other services, and/or reporting options with McGill and the larger community as needed to ensure optimal support.

5. Integrate a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and intersectional lens in developing and implementing programming that can include group therapy, psycho-education, and diverse healing approaches. Oversees group work and collaboration with internal and external partners to offer activities that consider community needs and different ways of conceptualizing healing.

6. Maintains files and clinical records in accordance with professional and internal policies and standards.

7. Works collaboratively with relevant community partners for the purposes of supporting and facilitating trauma-informed response processes to disclosures and/or referrals.

8. Maintains up-to-date and comprehensive information on resources available to students, staff, and faculty who have been impacted by SGBV.

9. Identifies emerging needs and updates the Associate Director as needed, and for case management purposes.

10. Remains current on emerging issues, research, best practices, and evidence-informed approaches and modalities in SGBV response, services, and clinical approaches.

11. Advises University community members (students, staff, faculty) who have concerns related to SGBV support and response.

12. Supervises social work interns.

13. Supports educational programming related to SGBV awareness and prevention.

14. Assists with the orientation of new staff and student volunteers.

15. Represents OSVRSE in internal and external committees as appropriate.

16. Provides data on services and cases to be included in an annual report to McGill Senate and the provincial government.

17. Works on special projects, as assigned.

Education and experience:

- Undergraduate degree in Social Work or a related field.
- Must be a member of the OTSTCFQ or related professional licensing body.
- Three (3) years of relevant experience in SGBV.

Other qualifications:

- Proficiency in both English and French (spoken) is essential.
- Graduate degree in a relevant field is an asset.
- Professionalism, good planning and organizational skills with excellent attention to detail are essential.
- Excellent team spirit and ability to collaborate and network with a diverse audience (student, staff, public).
- Proven ability to deal with confidential and/or sensitive situations with discretion, tact, and diplomacy.
- Must possess a deep commitment to the principles and values of creating inclusive campus communities. Specific understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles with a particular sensitivity towards 2S&LGBTQIA+ issues, anti-racism, and/or indigenization an asset.
- Ability to navigate complex student situations, including crisis intervention. Experience with suicide risk assessment and safety planning is required.
