Context:
The Office for Sexual Violence Response, Support and Education (OSVRSE) plays a critical role in fulfilling the University's obligations under P22.1- An Act to prevent and fight sexual violence in higher education institutions and implementing McGill's Policy against Sexual Violence (PASV). OSVRSE holds two main mandates: 1) to establish and coordinate processes for supporting survivors who make disclosures, and 2) to establish and coordinate education initiatives that seek to raise awareness about and prevent sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) on McGill campuses. OSVRSE’s work serves to uphold McGill University’s commitment to strive towards an equitable environment in which all members of the university community are respected, safe, and free from violence.

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Director (OSVRSE), the incumbent establishes and coordinates sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) prevention, response, and awareness-raising initiatives across McGill University. The responsibilities include oversight of the Peer Educator Team, development of communication materials, delivery of workshops, or partnership building.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Participates in the development and implementation of policies and new initiatives related to SGBV prevention, response, and awareness-raising. All awareness-raising initiatives are to incorporate a trauma-informed and anti-oppression lens and center information on the impact of intersecting forms of systemic discrimination on experiences of SGBV and disclosures of SGBV.

2. Manages the Peer Educator team who will assist with workshop delivery and awareness-raising across McGill campuses.

3. Oversees recruitment, training, and ongoing supervision of student staff and volunteers and supervision of interns, as pertinent.

4. Develops and manages the #Consent McGill yearly awareness-raising campaign.

5. Creates, maintains, and updates information, communication, and awareness-raising materials on OSVRSE communication platforms, including website and social media.

6. Delivers workshops to increase awareness and skills of McGill community members in noticing, intervening, and responding to disclosures of SGBV.

7. Collaborates with student groups, faculties, and administrative units to develop and increase the accessibility of programs and resources to educate the community on the prevention of and response to SGBV and building a culture of consent and respect.

8. Provides guidance and input into local projects that aim to promote and enhance cultures of consent and respect.

9. Builds partnerships and leads consultations with key stakeholders to discern needs and priorities, and to develop strategies for SGBV educational and awareness-raising programming. This includes key stakeholders on and off campus, including the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Team, student groups, Faculties, and units.

10. Provides administrative support to students, staff, and faculty in relation to the completion of mandatory SGBV modules.

11. Remains current on emerging issues, research, best practices, and evidence-informed SGBV prevention and response, particularly in relation to university contexts.

12. Represents OSVRSE on relevant internal and external committees.

13. Tracks workshop and training delivery and participation to provide data for annual reports to McGill Senate and the provincial government.

14. Assists in gathering feedback to inform recommendations and revisions to education and awareness-raising content on a yearly basis.

15. Identifies emerging needs and updates the Associate Director as needed.

16. Acts as a backup to the role of Education Advisor (Program Management).

17. Contributes to the update and development of new educational modules and workshops.

18. Assists in the general administration of SGBV educational modules, including communications, assessment, and IT tasks.

19. Performs other duties in support of the unit.

Education and experience:

- Undergraduate degree in Education, Social Work, Human Relations, Communications, or a related field.
- Three (3) years of relevant experience in SGBV.

Other qualifications:

- Proficiency in both English (spoken, read, and written) and French (spoken) is essential.
- Demonstrated planning, administrative, and organizational skills with an ability to prioritize tasks.
- Experience with event planning and organization.
- Demonstrated ability to develop complex and sensitive materials targeted to multiple audiences and deliver presentations.
- Experience developing communication material adapted to different populations and platforms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively with people from different functional areas and levels.
