**Salary**: $2,896.94 to $3,741.60 bi-weekly ($75,610 to $97,655/year)

**Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Program**:
Aquatic invasive species (AIS) threaten Alberta’s freshwater resources. The Alberta Government is invested in addressing AIS to minimize impacts through the Aquatic Invasive Species Program supported by five elements: 1) policy and legislation, 2) education and outreach, 3) monitoring of water bodies, 4) watercraft inspections and decontaminations and 5) response.

Reporting to the Aquatic Invasive Species Specialist, this full-time Aquatic Invasive Species Biologist position is accountable for performing a wide range of program activities intended to prevent the introduction and spread of aquatic invasive species across the province operationally through response initiatives.

The position functions as a key member of an integrated team of professional and technical staff responsible for the development and implementation of the Aquatic Invasive Species Program, which includes the following program elements, Policy & Legislation, Education & Outreach, Monitoring, Watercraft Inspection/Decontamination, and Response.

**Operational support will include**:
1. Leading the implementation of control and/or eradication projects for new and existing aquatic invasive species across the province for the protection of biodiversity and native fish and wildlife habitat. When management falls to another entity or partner, providing guidance and follow up to partners for the control and/or eradication to of aquatic and riparian invasive species.
2. Leading the development and implementation of provincial reporting and tracking of Alberta aquatic invasive species, as well as sharing monitoring data and results on aquatic invasive species.
3. Educating and informing the public, stakeholders and special interest groups about aquatic invasive species concerns and programs across the province.
4. Responsible for properly identifying and training staff and stakeholders to identify high risk aquatic invasive species.

**Requirements**:

- A University degree in a related field such as Natural Resources.
- Four (4) years of related experience in a field such as a Biologist or in Environmental Management or Fish & Wildlife Management.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (or equivalent).
- Current First Aid certification (CPR Level C).

**Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered based on**:

- A related two-year diploma plus 6 years related experience.
- Additional related education considered in lieu of experience on a one-for-one basis.

**Assets**:

- Experience conducting field work.
- Experience with or demonstrated training in aquatic invasive species.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally, and in writing.
- Comfort in and around water bodies.
- Comfortable speaking to public in small or large settings.
