Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Executive Director of Fish and Wildlife Stewardship, this position is responsible for developing policy and formulating strategic program direction for both terrestrial and aquatic species at risk as well as non-game species and associated habitat programing. This position is also involved in providing leadership within the Department, and cross-ministry, on the design, integration and delivery of these programs.

Responsibilities include:
• Providing strategic provincial program direction.
• Developing and implementing provincial policies and programs to support non-game species and species at risk conservation, and habitat objectives.
• Addressing emergent issues effectively and efficiently and anticipating potential future issues.
• Implementing and monitoring provincial programs and ensuring priorities and standards are maintained.
• Proactively collaborating across Ministries, with regional and provincial program leads, and external partners to strategically leverage and integrate resources and achieve conservation outcomes.
• Ensuring the development of science-based information, and the conveyance of that information to decision makers within and outside of government.
• Incorporating results-based budgeting in reviewing and ensuring budget expenditures are utilized in a cost-effective manner.
• Providing briefing materials and analyses of issues, and providing recommended solutions and alternatives.

You will provide leadership to a group of management, professional and scientific staff involved in developing and delivering non-game species and species at risk programs, legislation, policies and services throughout the province. You will provide tools, processes, and training to enable them to effectively meet the challenges of delivering on the department's mandate n relation to non-game species, species at risk, and habitat conservation, and associated management, assessment and reporting.
