**Salary**: $35.96 to $46.27 per hour

**Role Responsibilities**:

- Reporting to the Aquatic Species at Risk Coordinator the Species at Risk (SAR) Aquatics Technician will provide support to other SAR staff within the section. This position will focus on writing, updating and editing SAR plans, reports and communications/outreach materials.
- **Responsibilities will include**:

- Providing support to the Aquatic Species at Risk Coordinator on reviewing and updating recovery plans.
- Coordinating, tracking and integrating feedback on recovery plans, work plans, frameworks or outreach documents.
- Supporting the coordination of workshops and planning meetings with partner organizations.
- Searching, reviewing and summarizing primary literature (e.g., effects of human activity on populations and habitat of species at risk).
- Assisting with review of existing key communications and outreach materials and writing/reviewing new and existing materials.
- Supporting native trout habitat remediation through online geospatial tool development and through databases.
- Supporting recovery action tracker tools, developing progress reports and development of SMART goals.
- Participating in meetings and other events or tasks when necessary.
- Performing data entry and analysis.
- Completing occasional remote field work.

**Qualifications**:
**Requirements**:

- A 2-year technical diploma in a related field such as conservation biology, ecology, zoology, wildlife management, or natural resources management.
- 4 years of related work experience in the field of ecology/natural resources management.
- Valid class 5 driver’s license or equivalent.

**Equivalencies**:Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of:
- One year of experience for one year of education or
- One year of education for one year of experience.

**Assets**:

- Excellent technical writing and editing skills and experience with writing popular outreach materials.
- Proficiency in use of computer programs including MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Good working knowledge of aquatic species at risk, specifically native trout species
- their threats, basic biology and habitat requirements
- Experience in literature searches and proven ability to gather information from other jurisdictions and published sources into summary documents.
- Demonstrated skill at providing clear, professional, written presentation of data from biological studies as well as outlining clear goals, objectives and strategies in conservation planning.
- Experience in Geographic Information Systems/ArcGIS.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and connect with diverse sources for information gathering.
- Ability to work effectively independently and as a team.
- Knowledge of relevant provincial and federal acts, regulations, policies, and procedures such as Alberta’s Wildlife Act and Regulation, Federal Species At Risk Act, Alberta’s Public Lands Act and regulations, and Alberta’s Strategy for the Management of Species at Risk.
- Ability to assist in field related tasks such as stream fisheries assessments and OHV operation.
