**Undergraduate Student Researcher**:
**Primary Purpose**: To assist with an oral history research project which is being conducted this summer in partnership with the History Co-Lab and Ilarion Residence Retirement Home, and which focuses on Ukrainian Canadians residing in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

**Nature of Work**: Ilarion Residence Retirement Home, in partnership with the Department of History’s Co-Lab for Community Engaged Research, is running an oral history project that seeks to celebrate and honour the lived experiences of their Ukrainian Canadian residents. The undergraduate student researcher will work closely with a graduate student project lead to meet with possible participants and to conduct oral history interviews. The undergraduate student researcher will take lead on project organization, including interview transcriptions and preparing the files for donation to the Provincial Archives of Saskatchewan. The undergraduate student researcher will also work closely with the graduate student to create and edit a professional documentary based on the oral history interviews for Ilarion to show to the public.

**Details**: Will be trained, mentored, and supervised by a faculty member (Dr. Jim Handy, Department of History) and the Co-Lab Coordinator and graduate student researcher (Ms. Jessy Lee Saas, Department of History). Must demonstrate ability to work independently and as part of a small team. Must demonstrate sensitivity in conducting oral history interviews with senior citizens. Will be required to meet or exceed the minimum standard for COVID safety measures established by the University of Saskatchewan, Ilarion Residence, the province of Saskatchewan, and project supervisors. Work may be completed on campus and remotely, with field work conducted at Ilarion Residence in Saskatoon. Work hours will normally be scheduled between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, from May 1 to August 31 with some flexibility within these parameters.

**Typical Duties or Accountabilities**:analyzing primary and secondary source documents; conducting, transcribing, and analyzing oral history interviews; producing oral and written reports; assisting with selecting, editing, and compiling audio / visual materials.

**Experience**: None required, though experience with conducting interviews or with film production would be an asset.

**Hours**: Part-time (18-22 h/w)

**Skills**:

- Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work both with the research team and with members of the public.
- Must demonstrate excellent organizational skills, particularly with respect to data management and time management.
- Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
- The ability to speak, understand, read, and / or write Ukrainian is not required but will be considered an asset.
- Excellent typing skills (speed and accuracy) will be considered an asset.
- Skills related to video production will be considered an asset.
- Skills related to video editing will be considered a strong asset.
