**Position Summary**

Reporting to the Fleet Manager, the Driver will be responsible for transporting a range of passengers from our health clients, college students, and potentially managing a school bus route and assisting with seasonal field trips. The Driver will possess a strong commitment to safety, excellent driving skills, and exceptional customer service.

**What you’ll do**

**Patient Travel**:

- Ensure safe, timely transit for medical patients.
- Patient assistance, including but not limited to wheelchair support and paperwork management.
- Transporting patients to and from medical facilities safely and efficiently
- Assisting patients in and out of vehicles, ensuring their comfort and safety
- Responding to emergency situations calmly and efficiently
- Always maintaining patient confidentiality and privacy
- Ensure that only registered patients, clients, and Elders on the predetermined attendance list aboard the vehicle.
- Responsible for regulating heating, lighting, and ventilation systems for the comfort of the passengers.

**Driving/Vehicle Maintenance**
- Ensure the car seats are clean and comfortable for all riders.
- Inspect the delivery vehicle regularly and report any issues.
- Listen to traffic and weather reports to stay up to date on road conditions.
- Keeping accurate records of each transportation, including destination and time
- Performing routine vehicle maintenance and keeping the vehicle clean and presentable
- Following all traffic laws and regulations while driving
- Ensure daily and weekly cleaning procedures are met included but not limited to.
- Daily disposal of all garbage, wiping surfaces, etc.
- Weekly; outside power wash and inside dusting, vacuuming, etc.
- Keep copies of all pre/post-trip reports, mileage logs, etc.
- Responsible for maintaining safety standards. This includes boarding and exiting procedures.
- Complete fueling and top of fluids as required.

**Other Duties**
- Additional responsibilities as needed to support the community and uphold our shared values.
- Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by your Manager, Director, Executive Director/Chief Administrative Officer, or Chief & Council.

**What you bring**

**Qualifications**
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- A valid Class 2, 3 or 4 (restricted or unrestricted) BC Driver’s License strongly preferred. Applicants with a class 5 drivers' license will still be considered. Must have a safe driving record for the last 5 years (Driver’s abstract to be submitted with no more than 6 demerit points issued in the last 5-year period).
- Time management skills to ensure timely pick-ups and drop-offs.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful driving situations.
- Basic maintenance knowledge to fix any simple mechanical problems that may occur unexpectedly while on the road.
- Be attentive and alert in case unexpected hazards are found on the road.
- Standard First Aid and CPR Certificate considered an asset.
- Knowledge of Vehicle equipment maintenance is considered an asset. Ability to clean equipment according to identified standards and procedures.

**Preferred**
- Lived experience as a member of an Indigenous community, or with knowledge and understanding of Seabird Island’s culture, traditions, teachings, community dynamics.
- Experience working with First Nations communities, young workers, and adults.
- Prior wildfire experience and construction/renovation experience an asset.
- Ability and willingness to learn online and in person platforms.
- Ability and willingness to navigate Fire Smart website and Fire Smart requirements.
- Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills with the Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
